Very Central. 10 Minute walk to the Bund

Posted May 9, 2017
Pros: Luxurious surroundings and size of rooms
Cons: Chairs on the two balconies which look onto the street below (so that people in rooms without a balcony can enjoy sitting out within confines of hotel
Location: Peoples Park, The Bund, Nanjing Road all within walking distance. Raffles Shopping Mall literally in front of hotel.
Hotel doesn't look much from the outside, but as soon as the door is opened for you (by the bell boy) you step into absolute luxury and a cup of tea and cake. Very relaxing lobby with lots of comfy chairs and tables. Room large and very luxurious looking. Deep bath with television in bathroom as well as in room. Robes and Slippers provided. Very generous toiletries including toothbrush, razor, talcum, etc. Desk with writing paper, etc. Tea making facilities which are replenished twice daily. Turndown Service each night. Concierge very knowledgeable. Location of this hotel is excellent. Peoples Park a five minute walk, the Bund a 15 minute walk. Take a look at the streets below from the roof balconies. Our room faced into the middle courtyard which did make the room a bit darker and offered no view other than the rooms across, but did not affect the overall good experience.

No any benefits for GOLD + members of EXPEDIA.

Posted Apr 14, 2017
No room upgrades- ok, I understand, no available rooms. No free use of minibar (like in Kaminski, Berlin)-ok, I understand. But they could give us free breakfast. And they DIDN'T do it. They could give us any free lunch or dinner. And the staff didn't do it. So, except of some free fruits then you check in-NO BENEFITS TO GOLD + MEMBERS of EXPEDIA. By the way, the ceiling falls down in the bathroom, and we have noticed the reception.

A sense of history

Posted Jan 11, 2017
Pros: History, Art Deco, location
Cons: Restaurant - Mediterranean
Location: near many local shops and facilities. 30m from the nearest underground station.
A lovely old hotel established in 1934 before Shanghai evolved into this modern metropolis it is today. Accommodation is clean and tidy, the rooms a generally larger than average. Staff were pleasant and friendly. The Mediterranean restaurant (Ciao) I tried in the hotel was totally empty and the staff did not speak English (unusual for Shanghai), the food was average at best.

Great romantic night away

What an amazing hotel! Fantastic location right next to the Peoples' Park and just across the road from the Metro. The room itself is perfect for a romantic getaway with a beautiful deep-soaking jacuzzi and prompt room service. Highly recommended!
