The staff really took the place to the next level. The crew in the bar were not only very capable at their jobs in the restaurant and bar, but were also very helpful, in general. They spoke English very well, and helped me and my co-worker sort out issues with taxis, etc.
Loved that the place was nicely done, but not overly extravagant like a most business hotels. Really enjoyed hanging out on the patio and in the bar, and the rooms were very comfortable.
Initially, I had some trouble with the A/C, but the front desk handled it very quickly and before getting back to the room that evening, they had addressed it and my room was perfectly cool for the rest of my stay. They also brought different pillows on request (I needed a foam pillow that was firmer than all the down pillows that were standard in the room).
Beyond this, the hotel is in a great little neighborhood that feels much calmer than many of the other parts of Shanghai I've stayed. It's easy access to high-end retail if that's your game, but if you head the opposite direction, I found some great little cafes and restaurants about 2 blocks away. One was a very European-style cafe/market with wines, a great selection of beers, and a market of Euro meats and cheeses.
If you're here often for business like I am, I highly recommend it to help break you out of the standard bizarre routine of business hotels and city chaos.
