Needs a freshen up

Posted Dec 12, 2017
Trying to be as constructive as possible, the lad on reception as brilliant, very friendly and helpful. The room was cold, the bathroom was freezing, the heating didn’t work, plug in heater helped but radiator in the bathroom didn’t work. Luke warm water. Not the cleanest room although bed sheets were ok. We had no idea what to do when we went down for dinner, sat in the first tables as no one around, only to see there was another nicer dining room, felt like we were a pain in the neck for the gentleman. Breakfast we walked in and saw tea and coffee on a table so helped ourselves, only to be told it wasn’t for us, but a good job we had taken it as there was no hot water and our tea only arrived when we finished. It’s a shame really, they have tried to update the rooms but left everything else, it felt it just needed a good clean. It’s a shame.

Noisy room

Posted Dec 8, 2017
I had a room in the basement next to the fire exit. The first thing I noticed was there was a windy noise in the room. Mentioned this to the receptionist and she said it should be ok didn’t offer to change the room. In the night I couldn’t sleep at all. I am a frequent traveller to all over the world first time experienced something. It was noisy. In the morning when I complained receptionist was very apologetic. I wasn’t happy because I couldn’t close my eyes for hour due to the noise all night. Customer service is not helpful. Wouldn’t recommend to anybody. Still waiting hotel to come back to me to refund my money

One night stay to visit a family member

Posted Dec 4, 2017
Pros: Not much although the lady on reception was friendly and helpful
Cons: A face lift, it is dreary, drab and not pleasant
Our room was a long way from the main hotel reception. It was up and down several flights of stairs. The corridors definitely need a coat of paint - they were very dreary. The heating in our room could only be on full or off - nothing in between. The shower was poor because so much of the water ended up on the bathroom floor and soaked the bath mat beyond use again. The television channels didn't actually deliver the number of channels it was supposed to. There were very few coat hangers in the wardrobe. Considering this was sold as an 'executive' room we thought it was very disappointing. The duvet didn't stretch over the bed properly so was totally inadequate. The bed also didn't have any kind of cover/throw which might have helped with the duvet being inadequate.

Noisy and no WiFi

Posted Dec 3, 2017
Room was just ok. I booked it on the basis that there was in room WiFi howeverI was extremely frustrated to find that the WiFi didn't reach certain rooms. This messed up the work I very much needed to do! The room was extremely noisy, myself and my daughter both woke frequently every time someone walked down the corridor. Location is great for the university and Broomhill. The reception looked lovely all decorated for Christmas too. A real shame the room was a let down.

3rd stay, but our last!

Posted Nov 26, 2017
Our room was in the top of the building and very tired looking. The skirting boards were dusty, the sink in the bathroom wasn't fully clean and there was writing on the bathroom mirror. Bathroom needs a deep clean. The topper on the bed revealed stains when pulled back and tea and coffee facilities were sparse. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was very nice. Guy on reception lacked customer service skills, breakfast staff were pleasant. 3rd time staying here and will be our last despite being regular visitors to Sheffield.

Pros: very pleasant and helpful staff. good breKfast

lovely staff and good breakfast. Very surprised that there was no elevators. Quite a lot of stairs to climb.

Back at the Rutland....

Posted Nov 19, 2017
This was the second time we have stayed at this hotel. We visit the area a lot and would have stayed more often but their room prices vary and have not been competitive earlier in the year. We arrived very late in the evening after a long trip, the bar & kitchen were shut which is to be expected so went out for food then straight to bed. The room like the other we have stayed in is decorated in a bold modern style which is ok but is now showing signs of wear and tear. When closing the curtains a hefty metal bar across the window fell off and swung down but it was too late and dark to bother with. My bed side light sounded like a welding transformer and was unbearable to have on as was the dreadful noise from the bathroom extractor fan which runs on for minutes after using the facilities. The bed mattress was terrible and gives no support in the middle, it was like trying to sleep in a bowl which actually shifted slightly every time someone walked past in the corridor outside which they often did! We were too tired to complain as it would have had to have been a room change and at just after midnight we couldn't be bothered with getting dressed and repacking. When checking out I waited for reception to ask the usual "have you enjoyed our stay and was everything ok?" but they didn't as they seemed more concerned that we hadn't charged anything to the room and getting back to whatever we had interrupted. So the problems are still there, enjoy...... we won't again.

The hotel was nice for a local neighborhood hotel. However, it does not have an elevator which made it difficult for me to get up many stairs. The hotel offered help with the luggage. A good place if you don't have difficulty with stairs.
