Pros: They had a very generous continental breakfast.
Location: Its centrally located .
We were in Simsbury for a funeral. This hotel was more like a house. Pam and Debbie made us feel like we were family from the moment we arrived till even after we left. The living room always had a fire. The restaurant was excellent fit for a foodie!

Wonderful hotel with history

Posted Jan 31, 2016
Pros: Sheets, beds, staff, food, location.
Cons: I can't think of any improvements!
Location: Beautiful community! Nice restaurants. Historical cemetery. Tower - Mark Twain House - Harriet Beecher Stowe House - Wadsworth Museum - hiking
We were even more pleasantly surprised than we expected to be! The hotel is more lovely than in the photos. It is on a hill above the street with a winding driveway in a lovely town close to Hartford. The staff in outstanding. We needed to call in order to make sure we could check in late due to our flight's arrival time. The staff assured us that we could check in upon arrival. We arrived and were treated to a lovely, historical hotel. Our room was on the top floor. The bed was great as were the sheets! We slept very well and we do not usually sleep well on our first night in a new location. The toiletries and towels were great, too! The room was large and very pleasant. Breakfast was good and ready to eat each morning in front of a fire with local art displayed in the room. We were able to visit with the innkeeper and other guests and found our mornings very pleasant! The breakfast offered some delicious breads from a local bakery and each was outstanding. The staff gave us great ideas of where to eat locally and some great local ideas of how spend our time! We will definitely make a point to stay in Simsbury again!

Beautiful historic charm!

Excellent inn, and the inn keeper is by far one of the nicest, most accommodating hostesses we have ever met.

1820 House---It's the Gold Standard

Posted Nov 16, 2015
Pros: I liked everything about 1820 House. There isn't anything I did not like. I think you'll feel the same way, too.
Cons: Not a thing. Everything was terrific.
Location: Lots of name-store shopping, food, pharmacies, movies, medical care very close by on Hopmeadow St. & Route 44. This is a very scenic area, too.
The staff was very friendly, accommodating and willing to assist in every way. Pam, the innkeeper, is the most attentive, intuitive and caring manager I have ever encountered in my years of travel. The atmosphere was very pleasant, very peaceful, very clean; there's a wonderful fireplace in the main gathering area that's real, not electric or gas-powered, that it gives off real warmth! Beautiful wood floor in the main area, beautiful fireplace, multiple comfortable couches and chairs. The room was very spacious with chairs, a very comfortable couch, good lighting, a spacious bathroom and closet space, and a canopy bed that is very, very beautiful. The "continental breakfast" is far more than just a typical continental breakfast, with the best coffee I have ever tasted, plenty of juice, rolls, pastry, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. Plenty of parking that's close to the building for easy access. Don't think that 1820 House is enormously costly; it is not at all; it's worth every penny and more. I arranged the visit for two elderly people who came from Maryland and enjoyed themselves immensely. The staff went far out of their way and above and beyond the call of duty to make everything as easy for them as possible. I, myself, have stayed in B & B's in Vermont that cannot begin to compare with 1820 House. Simply the best!

Quintessential New England

Posted Nov 11, 2015 on Hotels
The Simsbury House was a perfect alternate to the ordinary hotel for the same price. It felt like quintessential New England staying in a historic Bed and Breakfast and being able to walk around the quaint town of Simsbury made it the ideal location. The proprietor Pam was a gracious hostess.
