Day-cation turned sour

Telephoned for early check-in at 10:00 and was told it was no problem. However, was denied when checking-in, the reason given that I did not inform them the booking was made through hotels.com. And, because I did not do that (as if I knew), I would have to pay an additional $20 for early check-in. What can I say? To make it worse, I have informed them by tele-conversation that I was checking-out by 6 pm. Needless to say, the day-cation was ruined! Guess one gets what one pays for.
