A lifesaver!

Posted Nov 30, 2016 on Hotels
I enjoyed my stay here! I was originally booked at the Red Roof Inn in Edison... worst experience ever. The area didn't give off a good vibe.. and neither did the room. Dim lighting and bugs.. So I cancelled and came across Hotel Somerset looking for another location. Saw the reviews and decided to book it. The hotel was under renovation and I knew that going in so it wasn't a big deal. As long at the place I was eating, sleeping and bathing was clean.. I was good. Check in was a breeze. It honestly look less than 3 minutes. My room was fine... clean, the bed was comfy, had a fridge. I needed to use a microwave and Dan at the front desk immediately had one sent to my room. All staff greeted me with a smile and a "hello". I will definitely stay here again and can't wait to see what it looks like once the renovations are done!

Great deals while under renovation.

Cons: All the outlets in the room were inaccessible, hidden behind heavy furniture, and loose in the sockets - sparked when you tried to plug something in!
Hotel is undergoing major construction, so some amenities are closed. But if all you want is a decent room near the convention center, the price is right! Lots of other options for dining within a mile and the desk staff was happy to make recommendations. No noise or dust from the construction was noticeable in the common areas or my room.

Nice enough

We're used to staying in hotels with more amenities - but they were all booked - so here we stayed. The hotel is undergoing renovation - the plans look great-but presently aspects of it are dated like the elevators and bathroom tile. But the room was comfortable and clean and - in a pinch -would stay again.

Pros: Room was clean and even had a balcony. Staff was very friendly.
Cons: Breakfast was not good at all no options really besides toast.
Location: Good location not far from city and major highway.

Close this hotel down, rip off bad service

Posted Nov 13, 2016 on Hotels
I have stayed at this hotel for the past 7 years for a annual tradeshow. Last year they started renovations of the hotel but the restaurant, store, bar were all opened. When I rebooked in 11/16 both hotel.com and Somerset hotels website advertised amenities' bar restaurant store and I assumed all construction was done. I was mislead, the restaurant, bar and store were all closed. The continental breakfast should have been called a soup kitchen but this would disrespect the soup kitchen which has much better food and service. And do not waste the extra money for the executive room for the 2nd year in a row it was closed. The hotel is supposedly being upgraded to a crown plaza and it should be renamed now so they have to take responsibility for the third world war zone environment of this hotel. It just needs to be closed down until the construction is done. The worst part is the front desk morning manager, she will let you know that she is not there to fix your problems with there service. I will never stay there again, doubletree behind the exhibition center is much better and only $15 more a night with free local shuttle.

Dear Guest , I am so sorry that you felt ripped off and I do apologize for that . We do state on our website that we are still currently under renovations and that our list of amenities is closed at this time. Our customer service is something that we do pride ourselves in and I will address with my team the treatment you felt that you received. My deepest apologies and I do hope that you will stay with us for the convention next year when we are completed. Regards, Michelle Satanik General Manager
