Beautiful authentic setting. Close access to train to travel north to Naples or south to Sorrento and services to explore Amalfi coast, ferries to Capri, Pompei ruins, Vesuvio etc. Lots of stairs but worth the climb to roof top area. Spectacular views. Good size rooms and open common areas.

To start with after traveling on coach for an hour and a half to property, when I finally located the place had no access to property for over 20mins as no one was there even though I notified them on Whatsapp I had arrived in Piano. No lifts to carry luggage and the ambience was very disappointing. Had to book another hotel in Naples to spend the night and only spent last night there.

Lovely hotel close to the train station
We loved our stay here, the gardens are beautiful, and make a tranquil oasis after a busy day sightseeing. The hotel is located perfectly: near the train station, and we found a lovely restaurant with views overlooking the harbour and sunset. Perfect base for visiting Herculaneum and Pompeii, and piano Di Sorrento is much quieter than Sorrento. The hotel staff were really helpful and the hotel was lovely and clean . Perfect

Beautiful old Italian building!
I stayed 8 nights here over the Xmas hols and had a warm welcome when I finally found the B&B! I was a bit disappointed in my room but hey, it didn't cost much but mine didn't look like any of the bedrooms on their website! However, it was cleaned etc almost every day and the 'buffet breakfast' was more than ample but mainly consisted of the Italian style one - croissants, brioche and cakes!! However there was also cornflakes and 'Dario' makes a lovely cheese omelette if requested! There was no need to eat lunch! LOL! They were always friendly and cheerful (him and his lovely Dad Giuseppe) yet not at all intrusive! Much better service than in a 5* hotel!

Just the ticket!
It was our first visit to Italy and our stay at The Secret Garden just added to our experience and we were looked after as soon as we arrived (with a refreshing glass of homemade Limoncello) by Dario and his family. The B&B is in ideal location to be able to explore the area and the train station, beach, buses, supermarket and shops are all to hand. There are also plenty of restaurants to eat at - we enjoyed going to the Trattoria Italia, getting an evening gelato at Delle Rose, eating massive pizzas at Pizzeria All'Angolo (close to the B&B/train station) ... we certainly ate well! Now that we're back from our holiday, we've realised just how lucky we were to stay at The Secret Garden and would recommend to others.

Secret Garden
The Secret Garden was a great place to stay. It was very clean. We had a little problem on the 2nd day but it was immediately taken care of, we were moved to another room. I would have loved to have had fresh fruit for breakfast, only thing lacking. Margarhert and Dario were great with assisting with tours and information. I would highly recommend the Secret Gardens for a stay.

A wonderful (and truly secret) B&B...
My partner and I stayed here for 1 week and loved it. Set amidst a beautiful lemon/orange grove, the top floor B&B is in an exquisite old building. Piano itself is lovely too - there are some great little ristorantes for if the travel to Sorrento is too much (although Sorrento itself is amazing and always worth the effort), however be aware that Piano is very residential - so if that's not your thing then staying here might not be for you! The room was huge and in keeping with the rest of the accomodation. The only drawback was that the bathroom was not ensuite and the toilet wasn't the best... Really wasn't the best - in fact one of the most temperamental pieces of plumbing I've ever encountered! However, I'm sure most people wouldn't care as much about this (my OH certainly didn't) and though the staff did offer us to switch rooms, I politely declined as the room itself was great... And I'd already unpacked... The breakfast was tasty and sweet, served buffet-style in a pretty pink room. Again this might not suit everybody, but we enjoyed it. All in all, wonderful welcoming staff and a lovely holiday. I'd recommend The Secret Garden to couples who are after a truly authentic, non-touristy experience, and don't mind a bit of a walk off the beaten track! One tip: print out a map before you travel, because it truly is tucked away out of sight - it took us over an hour to find it!

Peaceful and delightful stay in Piano Di Sorrento
We have just returned from Piano Di Sorrento and were really pleased to have found this delightful bed and breakfast away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento. The owners have created a really comfortable home from home on the top floor of an 18th century villa surrounded by lemon and orange groves in a walled garden. There is a large lounge, a breakfast room and 7 bedrooms all individually styled. There is free WiFi which I could only get to work in reception. There are 53 steps to climb to get to the front door so the Secret Garden is probably not suitable for anybody with mobility problems. The bed was comfortable, always plenty of hot water in the en-suite and the linen and towels were changed regularly. The breakfast was good for the price we paid. The property is kept very clean although there are some signs of wear and tear in the decor. Its a 6 or 7 minute walk to Piano Di Sorrento railway station which is two stops (5 minutes) from Sorrento for just over 1 euro each way. There are some good restaurants nearby we really liked Bistro Delle Rose and L'Antica Cantina.

Small b and b, basic accommodation.
The secret garden was a nice place to stay and it could not be faulted for the price we paid. However as the weather was bad during our stay we spent more time in the room than we planned. The rooms don't have WiFi and could do with some new beds. The hotel staff however are very friendly and helpful.

Pleasing Autumn stay
We visited from England for a week and were pleased with our experience. We travelled by car and used the nearby car park, and were assigned room 4 off the common lounge. It was not too difficult to find and we arrived in-between the official opening hours of the reception, but this was no problem. Pressing the buzzer gains access initially, after which your set of keys can be used for comings and goings. The building has multiple occupants and this hotel is on the second floor up a spiral staircase. We were greeted by a glass of Limoncello and well spoken English. Our room had a mini balcony with sea view and a separate area (very useful) with an additional single bed, small fridge and tea/coffee facilities along with an air conditioning unit (we didn't use this in November, just opened the full-height windows to the balcony). The double bed was a good size but not the most comfortable (ok for a week) The breakfast selection was toast, ham and omlettes (fresh from their own chickens), a selection of jam/chocolate spread, cereal with hot/cold milk and a selection of sweet options along with your choice of hot/cold drinks.

Piano di Sorrento more authentic than Sorrento
We had a wonderful time here, just a short & easy train-ride from Sorrento itself. Because we based ourselves here for 6 days, we were able to discover many delights of Piano di Sorrento, which is more authentic (& food is cheaper!) than touristy Sorrento. Restaurants, bars & shops aplenty as well as a free beach! But it can be a confusing maze of little streets, so it is such a pity that we had to search all this out for ourselves - a map of the town would be a great help, especially in initially finding The Secret Garden.

Autumn Break
Small family run B&B in quiet suburb of Sorrento but with excellent transport connections via local railway/ bus network. Comfortable en-suite room and tastefully furnished throughout with character only found in older buildings. Stayed for a week but on a hectic tourist schedule so really only slept and breakfasted at the hotel, we prefer a quieter less organised life and this suited us. Breakfast was a combination of cold egg/ ham and local pastries/ cakes - limited choice but ample to start the day with a selection of coffee/ teas available to order. Hotel style facilities limited but it is a mid-priced B&B so exactly as expected. We walked miles on our visit, local bars and restaurants a bit limited off season but overall a great holiday.

Charming, friendly hotel full of character.
This hotel is outside of Sorrento in a district called Piano di Sorrento. As such, it is tranquil and away from the tourist hubbub. The hotel is well sign posted however you arrive in Piano and the owners couldn't be more helpful and friendly.

A truly authentic experience!
We booked in for 9 days during August. On arriving at Naples airport there is a coach which costs around 5 euros which takes you into the centre of Piano and from there it is about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the hotel. We were very taken with the hotel, hosts and surroundings and we had a corner room which had enchanting views of the mountains and a distant view of the sea. Our hosts were convivial but never intrusive and the hotel itself is set in a quiet but central part of town and set in lovely gardens festoned with lemon trees. Sorrento is a short train ride away if you are looking for the touristy hustle and bustle but Piano itself has some charming restaurants and bars which offered good value for money and great local hospitality and are a 5 to 10 minute walk away from the hotel and we found this useful as the last train back from Sorrento is at around 9.30pm so we felt far from stranded. To sum up we couldnt have enjoyed our stay more the place had real character and we managed to pack in a great deal of sightseeing as the train was in close proximity (Naples is about an hour on the train, Pompeii about 30 mins) and the beach is about a 10 minute walk away. Charming place sad to leave.

Truly a Secret Garden!! The Secrets Out!!!
This hotel is more of a B&B which is situated outside Naples in the nearby town of Piano Di Sorrento! It is a very posh B&B and gives a very focused service as a result, with a nice breakfast room lounge with fresh pastries, cappucinos, coffees and teas and with fresh lemon and orange juice. When I say fresh, I mean picked off the garden tree where lemons and oranges are the fruit of the tree. Another thing to note, Sorrento is a town full of lemons and oranges, so when it is nicknamed Land of Lemons and Oranges, it means exactly that! I found the staff very helpful, lovely and affectionate. Giovanni, a Neopolitan gentleman, was amazing and very helpful indeed. I am only sorry that i didn't learn more Italian than I could have done as he was very engaging. When I arrived in Naples, I had an issue with my lost luggage so checked-in late but Giovanni was understanding. Other staff members were very nice even though I did not get their name. The room I got was the Double Room and was very plush and romantic. Though I was on my own, I felt spoilt and favoured and comfortable. The only thing to say was that since I travelled there in February, the weather was still somewhat cold and heating was sparse in the room. But all else was fine with the hotel. The reception is not manned constantly so if you need anything, its best to try anticipate your needs and inform the staff in the breakfast time, which is 8:30 - 10am. Location to hotel has signs easy to find!

Great for a short stay
It is more a B&B than hotel but a lovely place and really nice and friendly staff. It is has a feel of it being used more by locals than foreigners, perfect for a short stay Great but is needed to be a little better sign posted as it does live up to its name as the secret as the secret garden, a sign at the main door and at the top of the stair well and a note to show where the bell is.

Nice B$B
The room we ( my daughter and I) stayed is very clean and comfortable with a huge private bathroom next door. Owner is very friendly and helpful, She printed bus timetable for us and gave us direction for surroundings. She even got up earlier to prepare our breakfast because we had to leave before the usual breakfast time. Very nice breakfast (lots choice and plenty). Although it is not in the centre of Sorrento, it is very easy to reach by the train (two stops). It is close to train station (about 8-10 mins walking) and there is clear sign to lead you to the B&B (look for the post outside the station and at turning point on the street). We stayed for three nights and was very satisfied.

Traditional Italian Hospitatilty
Pretty traditional Italian B&B. The staff were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Had family staying in Sorrento were it was extremely busy, so was pleased to have somewhere quiet to relax. The local restaurants were cheap and the food of excellent quality. Well located for anyone attending a wedding at Villa Fondi (10 min walking distance). The B&B is set in a beautiful citrus garden heavily scented by Orange Blossom.

wonderful stay
We stayed here for 5 days. The manager was lovely and more than willing to help with anything we asked for. The room was very cleaned every day with the only downside of this being that they took the glasses away to wash and didn't bring them back! Its easy to ask for more though. We had a really big room with a separate bedroom and living area. The relais is in piano not Sorrento which was clear when booking but the train was very quick and the station close to the relais. We enjoyed being in piano as we were able to access other towns such as sant agnello and the gorgeous beach in meta. We honestly loved staying in the secret garden and would recommend it!

Home away from home
This B&B is a 5 minute walk from the train station and the village, and felt like our own home. Proprietors are very nice and make a banging cup of cappucino @ breakfast. They recommended a family-run restaurant 2 blocks away which we loved. Train to Sorrento runs every 30 minutes (then a 4 minute train ride). I'm too nervous to walk the 20 minutes to Sorrento on the narrow road (once was enough to convince me to use the train). We felt like we got a true taste of Italy - I hope you get the chance to enjoy this B&B.

Lovely base for couples
This is a dwelling on the 3rd floor of a large house in the urban area of Piano Di Sorrento. It is not really a hotel but more of a guest house. The satff and cleanliness were excellent as was the room we had. Breakfast is Continental and plentyful and the staff were happy to make fesh Expresso etc if requested. We stayed for 2 weeks in late September, the rooms were cleaned and clean ample towels etc provided every day. The Secret Garden is in a secluded area and at the top of 59 steps of a large spirral stair case. Vehicle access to the garden is very limited (taxis will not drive down the actual road but will pick-up and drop of at the rear of the Bassilca St Michelle some 100m away). Although the train station and town Plazas are only some 10 minute walk this is not a location for those who have mobility or health difficulties.

Not impressed
As previous reviewers have mentioned, this hotel is not in Sorrento centre and is hard to find. We arrived on Friday 23rd March, before the season started and there was nobody who spoke english and this remained the case for the whole week. We had to find our way around by trial and error, but that was not so bad. If you like ham and cheese or cheese and ham for breakfast, accompanied by lukewarm coffee you will love it here? Hopefully there will be staff here in the season, because the owner, who is very nice but no english, does not do cleaning or more interesting breakfasts. We will not be returning.

The room was small but comfortable. The building is quite old, early 1800's I believe, but nicely converted to a bed and breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpfull, especially Elaina, sp?. The location to the train station was great, just a short walk down some quaint streets and alleys where you get a nice feel for daily life in this part of Italy. The neighborhood was fine and it felt safe enough, and it was quiet. Just a short train ride to downtown Sorrento and all it has to offer. I visited in December and it was a bit cold and rainy, but I imagine that the area is very nice in the spring, summer, and fall.

A relaxing and friendly break near Sorrento.
The Secret Garden is as comfortable as staying with favourite friends. It is not like an impersonal hotel. When Elina asks where you're going today, it's because she's interested and she wants you to have the best time possible. Her recommendations for food, especially gelato were excellent. We had room 2 and 3, a twin with bath/ shower and double with shower which are at the top of the house, up some stairs from the breakfast room. This worked well since we have 2 teenage sons so they could 'hang' in their room or come down In the evening to sit on the sofa's and chat or use the computer or sit out on the high veranda. Piano di Sorrento is quieter than Sorrento but being only 2 stops away on the train (less than a 10 min journey) was fine with the station 5 mins walk from the Secret Garden and trains running every half hour or so. The Secret Garden is tricky to find but Elena arranged a taxi to pick us up from Naples Airport and then met us in a nearby piazza when the taxi arrived. Yet another example of the personal service you get staying here. Breakfast was a delicious continental style each morning with pastries, fruit, yoghurt, cold meat, cheese and bread with fresh juice and plenty of coffee.

The Secret Garden Relais
Piano di Sorrento was a typical Italian town, it was less touristy, which in some ways were nice but meant there wasn't an awfull lot to do. We had stayed in sorrento for the two nights before moving onto Piano, I would reccomend staying actually in sorrento town, lovely buzzy place lot's of restuarants and shops. You can get the train from Piano di Sorrento to Sorrento which takes about 5 minutes and costs a couple of euro's return. We did that on one of our evenings in Piano as there wasn't many places to eat in locally. The pool at the hotel was not what we expected, it was out the ground, very small and not clean, it was over shaddowed by trees and was surrounded by an untened patio area. However the small beach in Piano was beautiful, they are privately owned but you only need to pay for a sun lounger to use the beach which was about 7 euros and was worth it, the water was lovely and would be perfect for people with children. Be warned the walk down to the beach was a steep zig zagged road, its fine if you are quite fit and able but not so good if you struggle with up hill walking. I wouldn't have changed my visit to Piano Di Sorrento, because it was great to expereince a more rural side of Italy (we had already stayed in Ravello and Sorrento) however I probably wouldn't want to go for a whole week. I will say though the last night of the holiday in piano, my partner and I got a takeaway pizza and sat on the roof terrace looking over the town and the sea and by chance there was a huge firework display that had been layed on for a passing cruisliner, which was quite simply amazing.

Off the Sorrento main drag
Despite our room shortage problem, we were extremely happy in our Piano villa. Only a few minutes walk to the train station to get to Sorrento or Pompei and away from the hussle and bussle of the Sorrento main drag. If you are relaxed and not in any hurry, this should not be a problem. Very pleasant, roomy property. A hidden palazzo. Would definitely stay again if going back to the Amalfi coast. Also did not have the price tag of a Sorrento or Positano hotel. If you are on a budget and can live without the view, a great place to stay.

This was an oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of sorrento. Room was nice and spacious. Waking up with sun and nice gentle breeze was splendid. Honesty bar at very reasonable prices. Very nice breakfast on terrace or airy breakfast room. Free wifi. Laura very helpful. Short walk from station. Downsides computer room and breakfast room part of owners apartment. Slight lack of organization. Make sure you print map from google to help you find the place. If you want the full us type of hotel with a lift/ elevator, hermetically sealed airconditioning, and full service desk, this place is not for you. If you want to stay in a lovely building, away from the busy centre of sorrento and have a relaxing time, you'll enjoy it.

the secret garden was almost everything that i expected apart from the alley way which led to the front gate, quite narrow and cars using it, once through the front gate it was a sight to behold, what with the orange and lemon groves it was impressive. once in the hotel and checked in the staff were excellent, so helpful especially laura who could not do enough for you and was full of information about everything. breakfast was ok apart from the stale bread but i think that was due to us being the only guests, there was a wide selection of cakes all very moreish.it is close to the train station and only 10 mins into sorrento. overall it is a beautiful hotel, close to amenities, very friendly and helpful staff and i would not hesitate to use this hotel again

Cheap and cheerful B and B but I won't be going back
I did some research (tripadviser and hotel's own website) and concluded that this hotel was a good find; it is not expensive and the photos online look nice. We stayed there from 19-21 July 2009. Pros: nice veranda for breakfast, very quiet area, 5 minute walk to train station (and trains about every 10-15 mins), nice bathroom. Cons: photos online are somewhat misleading and so the hotel did not meet our expectations. You get what you pay for, I suppose. Some facts: (1) this is a B&B, run by a nice family - indeed, the reception is the family lounge (2) the pool is quite small (3) room 3 doesn't have any windows, it has a skylight that can be reached by a 6 ft tall person standing on the bed (4) rooms have air-con but it is centrally controlled (5) Piano is dead, and Sorrento is not a noisy place to stay (contrary to what the Rough Guide says). We moved to another hotel in Sorrento after 2 nights at the Secret Garden. Indeed Sorrento is an absolutely lovely place to stay.

The Secret Garden is hard to find, and quaint/unique in a way that we've never experienced before, but once you are settled in it is a wonderful oasis of calm and rest. The Secret Garden was an unusual experience, far off the beaten trail. Hidden away, on a cobblestone street, behind giant wooden doors lies a treasure trove of lemon and peach trees, flowers, grape vines and Pasqual. The staff was helpful and dedicated to making your stay comfortable and relaxing. The breakfast was served on a rooftop terrace and was excellent. I would highly reccommend this B&B and if you go, please tell Pasqual we miss him, especially that big, bad man.

Will definitely stay again - perfect retreat
I could not have chosen a better place to stay. The location - Piano di Sorrento - was perfect as it was close enough to Sorrento itself (which is an excellent base for exploring the Amalfi region) but far enough away from the tourists and traffic that swarm Sorrento all day and all night. The Secret Garden guest house is set amongst a plethora of vegetable gardens and citrus trees (their home-made Limoncello is some of the best you'll taste) and the swimming pool area is peaceful and relaxed. The staff (being family-run makes all the difference) are more than accommodating to your every need, and upon arrival you really do feel instantly at home. The rooms are bright, clean and airy and the only problem I had (in room 4) was the air-conditioning unit, which produced more heat from it's motor, than cold air from the air-vents. Perfect for solo travellers, couples, families and those wanting to fit in some business!

What a lovely place!
My son and I had a lovely time in this quiet hotel. So different from modern hotels, this is a renovated villa with large comfortable rooms and a peaceful, rural atmosphere. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace is a memory to treasure, as is the Saturday evening, home-cooked, dinner. The staff and family owners were very helpful and did everything they could to support us. One disappointment was the tiny swimming pool but it is quiet and restful. The rooms are so large that we were rarely aware of other guests. The local train makes it easy to reach Sorrento and other places and there is so much to see and do near here.

It had hardwood floors and a great bathroom. We stayed in the room named Capri. It was very comfortable. The breakfast was very nice too. It was all continental. This was a 300 year old villa which was renovated last year. The owner was very sweet. she even did our laundry for us. My only problem with this place was that it was difficult to find. We had to have some locals help us get there. I would recommend this place to everyone. It is not in sorrento but ten minutes away from it. If I have a chance I would definetely go back and stay there.

bellissima vacanza, anche se per pochi giorni, presso il secret garden. posto bellissimo e pilito. ottima colazione servita sul terrazzo. per raggiungere la spiaggia è vero che occorre fare 700/800 metri a piedi ma è veramente salutare.
