Visiting familyPosted Nov 25, 2015
I have stayed here many times due to the proximity to family. Very little changes over time, which is both the appeal and the draw back. The hotel, while looking grand from the outside, is desperately in need of some renovations. Furnishings in the rooms are old and outdated. Windows that don't open. Hallways that are like saunas. TV choices circa 1992. Exorbitant prices in the Tempus Bar. However the food is v good, the buffet breakfast excellent, the staff friendly, the grounds beautiful and the rooms rather charming in their own way. the location is also very peaceful as the hotel is set a good 1/2 mile back from the main road. I will stay again for sure.

Stay at the Selsdon Park HotelPosted Nov 25, 2015
Pros: The outside looks fantastic and so does the lobby entrance
Cons: Lots of money spent on furnishing the bedrooms to make it a 3-4 star hotel standard
The hotel looks fantastic from the outside and so does the lobby, however our bedroom was awful. I would rate the bedroom as a 2 star hotel, with basic interior and furnishings. Our bed actually was slanted, we stayed for one hour to get ourselves ready to go to a friends wedding and then promptly checked out. This is the first hotel which we have ever visited where we have left without staying the night.

In need to tlcPosted Oct 24, 2015
Pros: Room size and used to be very grandiose.
Cons: Generally needs updating and tlc
Location: Good parking and small array of shops nearby.
Hotel has seen better days. Room was a good size but had broken tables, fraying lampshades and there were smelly towels.

Nice hotel but very Small roomPosted Oct 23, 2015
Pros: The grounds are lovely. There was free parking and adequate amount of parking spaces.
Location: It was close enough to London city but we did have a car.
The room was very small and not very nice. The toilet was running a lot during the night and very noisy. The food in the buffet breakfast was luke-warm and the dinner was expensive for mediocre food. The desk staff did not answer the phone so I had to go to the desk to find out info.

Bit Hot & NoisyPosted Oct 19, 2015
Pros: Love the setting and the look of the hotel. Free Wi-Fi is great.
Cons: Needs updating
Location: There is a Wetherspoons a short walk away and you are about 10 minutes by car from Croydon.
Second stay in two weeks and we were upgrade to a superior room, very large. Again clean and tidy although dated but good value in my opinion. Staff were excellent but the place is so hot. It was very noisy with two events going in right under our room although music stopped at 11.30. Around 6.30am while still dark there people heading for the golf hut chatting and generally being noisy, don't know what that's about. Overall I would stay again for the right price.

Stayed there for a wedding. One night. I think the staff were trying to do the best with what they had. They were by and large friendly. The room was at the end of a rabbit warren of narrow corridors, up stairs and downstairs. It took over 7 mins to walk to the room. Apparently there is no bellboy service. You have to carry your own luggage.There.was no heating or air conditioning because according to the front desk staff, "it was not time for it to go on" The "king bed" is minuscule by American standards. The entire place looks old and tired. The linen in the bathrooms was very old faded and threadbare. The faucet had a cover missing. If the MGM Grand Las Vegas is 4 stars or above this place is 1 star or less. How could you put them in the same group ? It makes your star rating system a complete joke!!!!!! If you forget your toothbrush it will cost you a pound to get one of their flimsy temporary ones. I do not plan to ever stay there again.

Better than expectedPosted Oct 12, 2015
Location was key for me so booked this for one night not expecting much after reading some awful reviews. The hotel is old and could do with a update but my room was very clean with crisp bedding and I'm booked to go back next week so fingers crossed. Staff were fine nothing amazing and the building itself is lovely and full of charm.

CHESSINGTON VISITPosted Oct 12, 2015
Pros: Friendliness of staff
Cons: Leisure club changing rooms dirty and G Wing bathrooms need update
Location: Stayed here for Chessington World.
Asked to change room as staying in G Wing ground floor fusty smell not pleasant. Staff were very helpful. The second room was very comfortable the bathroom spoilt it lots of limescale around the taps. The swimming pool was great but the changing facilities were dirty and dated. I would recommend however as the price is very reasonable for the area.
