"Review of Secrets, adjacent to Now Amber"
When we checked in, we were offered the same room at no additional cost at Secrets, the adults only hotel connected to Now Amber. I had not considered Secrets as my daughter is not 21 but is 18. This turned out to be perfect for us. We both loved the swim out room and would reserve the room type again. The staff were super personable and so much fun! Just like a cruise ship, we got a schedule of the next day's events along with turn-down service every evening. Overall, Secrets exceeded our expectations. They will invite you to attend a vacation club presentation and give you some discounts and other enticements to attend but I declined and no one bugged me about it.

"Great hotel, friendly staff."
Everything about this hotel was awesome, we did not do the all inclusive and still felt very welcomed. From the first impression to the last meal we were very pleased.

"Very nice and on the beach"
Balcony was very large and beautiful view. All inclusive was nice as well, and you could order off the menu or they would fix anything you asked for.

"Huge resort on the beach"
This resort is right on the beach with big ocean view rooms w/out balconies. Bottom floors 1-4 are Terrace rooms with luscious green palm trees garden/pool views. Only one building and the club rooms have balconies. Two very beautiful huge pools w/different feet levels and swim-up bars. Many pool and beach lounger chairs under shade and sun, but kind of far from the ocean. The hotel's beach sand is very rocky and uncomfortable to walk on, the water is a bit cold right now (April) with strong waves, not for kids. The beach is not private, constant pressure to buy stuff from locals. Buffet open everyday for breakfast, lunch & dinner and the food is average. Mexican restaurant is for adult only and reservation required. Two other restaurants operate every other day, and we found out at the end that if you have all-inclusive, you can go to the buffet as well. They don't tell you much, have to ask for everything. It's a 5min drive to Malecon downtown and shopping. We stayed 12days and rented a car, PVR is a beautiful city right now, flowers everywhere. Mexican insurance required and very expensive, they drive very fast and downtown has brick roads w/out any lane markings. Taxi from hotel to airport only 120pesos/$7, but to hotel is another story.

"Wonderful, relaxing paradise (:"
This is an incredibly priced all-inclusive resort. The staff are friendly, helpful, and overall incredibly attentive to detail. Rooms are cleaned thoroughly and public bathrooms are constantly cleaned every 30 min. The drinks were all good, plenty of options for food. You get 1 alacarte dining option with every 2 nights stay, so definitely eat at Surf & Turf around sunset! Make your reservation at least one day before. If you want to be involved with the entertainment, there are plenty of options or you can just relax and enjoy the pool/beach. The other visitors were mostly families or adults, so if you're looking to meet other spring-breakers or young couples, there weren't many when we went in March. You can exchange currency from dollars to pesos at the front desk for a good rate, but not pesos to dollars. Easy bus ride a block away south to Malecon boardwalk or downtown area, only 7.50 peso. Or a taxi is easily 70-80 peso (you can negotiate). Right outside the resort, they will get you a taxi back to the airport, 40-50 peso. Taxis from the airport to Canto are more expensive because city taxis aren't allowed, but you'll get a cheaper price if you withdraw pesos from ATM or exchange dollars. When you walk outside the airport, there are people holding small signs with prices and zones (Canto del Sol is in zone 1), we got a large "economy" van for 5+ for 520 pesos or they would take ~$36 dollars

"Not bad"
As many others said, this hotel is older and not huge. The rooms and resort are clean but not many frills. There were a few very nice staff members but for the most part, most of them would ignore us unless we made conversation or asked for something. They got a tad better when we tipped them. Could definitely use some work. A lot of locals use the south end resorts and this was no exception. They got a lot better treatment. The food isn't great by any means but we expected it so we made due.

"Great all-inclusive for spring break"
I went on a spring break trip with about 11 people with very low expectations due to the other reviews. To our surprise, this hotel was MUCH MORE than we expected! I was slightly confused online about how close the rooms were to the beach and they are VERY close. The club hotel has a pool with a bar and the main buffet place. The beach, which is less than 100 yards from the hotel has an additional pool with a bar, food, and beach access. The staff was also fantastic. The bartenders Alberto, Fernando, and Claudio made our experience exceptional. Additionally, the activities staff, mainly Raul, were inclusive and provided lots of poolside entertainment all day (beach volleyball, balloon games, aerobics, kayaking). The food was good. Some people drank the water and felt fine all trip while others were sick. The Italian restaurant was our favorite because we had amazing 4 course meal on the deck on the beach. Breakfast was our favorite meal. This resort had mostly families and a few other spring breakers, so it was not a rowdy crowd, but the general population in PV around March are spring breakers.

"Nice place on the beach"
Check in was quick, staff was great. The only complaint is that the exact same choices were available everyday @ the buffet. Families with kids under 12 were not allowed to visit the al la carte restraunt, (unless you left them in room or outside the rope-rude to do if on a FAMILY vacation). Bacon must be requested as it it not out. Drinks were good, only beer is Corona. On a nice beach. Rooms cleaned everyday & daughter loved the creative "towel art". Also, we never heard our neighbors, Lots of venders on beach but we did end up booking an excursion that we wanted to do with Pablo, as @ the "desk" welcome center, you could only do the excursion if you attended a 75 min "vacation club" presentation. Find Pablo on the beach!!! He booked us for a lot less & NO presentation. Resonable $ gift shop @ hotel. We felt safe there with our 9 yr old. Parrots out front, and an alligator, not detained but very obedient that you can see between the resort and neighboring property. We did banana floaty ride in ocean 2x. Provides great view of town!! Great view every night of fireworks from Pirate cruise excursion can be seen from the property. Nightly entertainment is kept tasteful for adults and kids. Overall a nice experience with many memories to share :-). Even with all of the spring breakers there was no drama. Check it out

Pocket Guide: South Hotel Zone, Puerto Vallarta Beach Hotels

Because of the surrounding resorts, this area’s beaches are among the most crowded in Puerto Vallarta. Playa las Glorias’ gray-sand beach is popular for boating and parasailing. Around hotel row, street vendors hawk silver jewelry and other small souvenirs. Nearby, daily soccer matches take place at the municipal sports stadium, which also has a top-notch track and field facility.
