Good value for money but local area gritty

Posted Nov 26, 2017
As others have said: Don't judge the tired exterior of this 1960's motel alone. Staff helpful, rooms double the normal SanFrancisco size with microwave & fridge. Room spotless but a bit dated. The local area is tricky to assess. If you lack self-confidence and are fearful of the poor and homeless then this area is not for you. If you are confident then you will be fine. The street people are problem to themselves but were never a threat to me

Right in the Middle of Everything

Posted Nov 17, 2017
Pros: Comfortable, proximity to everything in SF
Cons: The endless echo. Noise damping is crucial here. Perhaps someone from Dolby Labs can help!
Location: In the heart of everything in SF.
If location is what you want, this is a good place to park yourself for the night. Many of SF's music clubs are within a five-minute walk, as is the Civic Center BART station. The Mission District is a few steps south, and downtown, Union Square, and Chinatown are ten minutes' worth of walking to the north. My room itself was very nice: everything was really clean, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom as recently remodeled, and the temperature control was easy to navigate. But this hotel has one fatal flaw: It's an old motor inn that's in serious need of noise damping. (Ironically, Dolby Labs' headquarters are just a block away—perhaps someone can be hired from there to develop noise reduction protocols at SOMA Park Inn.) Footsteps echo throughout its concrete courtyard and into the rooms. The courtyard itself is a parking lot, and all noise reverberates up from it. God forbid you have loud neighbors, as I did. If you're a sound sleeper, and you need a place to stay in SF, this place will fit the bill. But if you're a light sleeper, it is one big concrete echo chamber.

Cleaning is not something they do

Posted Nov 9, 2017
Cons: There is no excuse for dirty rooms. Hard work and cleaning supplies. Things can be beat up and still be clean. Have some pride of ownership.
Everything in the hotel room was gross. Doors, walls, nightstand, lamps. Everything had built-up grime, dirt, fingerprint smudges. The carpet didn't look like it had been vacuumed in at least three or four stays. The phone didn't even have a cord plugged into it or in the room that I could find. The homeless is a huge problem down there and multiple people used the ice machine on the ground level with their hands. It was not safe to walk around alone in that area at all, even to walk across the street to get a coffee.

I apologize that we were not able to reach your expectations.we have noticed your complain and already worked on it.San francisco itself has large number of homeless population and as we are in the center of the city we do have homeless people around us but our hotel is safe and have key entry to the hotel.Thank you for staying with us.

What's there is part of the city life of San Fran

Posted Oct 18, 2017
Pros: Getting around is perfect, just off freeway and right in the heart of the city.
Cons: Security guard overnight would help a lot to have control over the compound
Just stay in your room .... if you hear anything outside its all okay.... just stay in your room

Spacious and Clean for the Budget Minded

Posted Oct 16, 2017
Pros: Clean comfortable room
Cons: Maybe better vending machines
Location: The location is not good, there are a lot of homeless in this area but the hotel has good security features including key access at all entry areas.
I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations at The Soma Inn. Please be aware that the neighborhood is less than desirable, but when you need a room in San Francisco, and can't imagine a $250+ per night hotel bill, this is an excellent choice. The room was very clean and a lot larger than most, modern furnishings, super comfortable bed with crisp sheets, plantation shutters, a microwave and mini fridge, and quality shampoo/lotion/soap amenities. I would not recommend staying here if you are afraid of the truly urban experience, but I felt very safe here, regardless of the homeless issue in the South of Market area of San Francisco.

Good deal

Posted Sep 28, 2017
They do charge a small fee for parking. The rooms are on the second and third floors which provide a level of extra security. It is in an area with a lot of homeless and strange people but it's also really centrally located and a good value. I thought the rooms were nice considering what it is and it's a shame San Francisco can't figure out their homeless and drug problem because otherwise this motel would be an amazing spot. Once again I think the inside of the rooms are very impressive for the money.

Civic Center not far from Moscone Center

A nice clean room, with fridge and microwave. Room was in good condition. A bit noisy due to location on a busy street. Not the best part of town, but a good value.
