Great for short stay

Posted Nov 29, 2015
As mentioned, the hotel does not have great curb appeal, but it is definitely a hidden gem. The room I stayed in (First Mates Suite) was big and clean. It was the perfect room for my short stay on the North Fork over Thanksgiving. The rate was very reasonable. Unfortunately, the fire alarm went off pretty early the morning I was checking out, but the hotel staff got to the property very quickly and corrected the situation. Overall it was a great stay. You can't go wrong staying here!

Perfect North Fork Hotel

The location was beautiful on the marina. The lobby and hotel was brand new. The service was very good. It was a perfect place to hang out in Greenport and go to the wineries. Would definitely come back.

Pros: Room cleanliness
Great experience...no issues with checking in early, rooms, including lobby, look freshly updated and therefor EXTREMELY clean and comfortable, and the staff couldn't have been nicer! This is also a perfect location with easy access to Greenport, wineries, farms, and terrific restaurants. Enjoy!

comfortable hotel, reasonable price, WEIRD layout

Posted May 16, 2012
Pros: staff. apartment-like room itself with full kitchen
Cons: weird layout & surroundings
Location: north fork of Long Island is terrific. Heron suites is about 4 miles from hub of Greenport. nothing's too far from anywhere else on the North Fork.
An added bonus is that this is in proximity to the Southold Fish Market which if fabulous. the staff were extremely accommodating. But the layout of the place is WEIRD. the hotel is like a movie set dropped amidst a warehouse area - indeed, Port of Egypt is a working commercial fishing area, and the hotel is surrounded by warehouses and businesses selling boats. The swimming pool you'd want to drive to, when it opens for the season. the Grill gazebo is a walk to the end of a spit of land, not really close to the hotel portion. the restaurant, also, is a little walk too. so, no, it's not the most charming location. with all those caveats, I would recommend it on the basis of the accommodations themselves and the extraordinary staff.

Ok but pricey for out of season

Posted Mar 21, 2012
Cons: There was no pots or pans despite having a kitchen. Stove doesn't work
Expensive for what it is and it was out of season.
