Arrived 24.9.2019 and shown to a very small room with shower , after looking at the pillow cases on the bed we found that the cases were very soiled and after further investigation the mattress was heavily stained we could not sleep on a bed that was unhygenic. We then requested another room. Which was up a further two flights of stairs but only had a bathroom , not a shower , this was acceptable. Although the bath had to be cleaned by the person showing us the room before we could use it . this room was ok although the bed was very uncomfortable and room was very dusty. The food / breakfast was ok. In all of this time not one apology was given for the inconvenience that we had to endure . on day that we left all the waitress was concerned about was the return of the parking permit. Still no apology. Would not reccomend this B&B ( because that is all it is ) and i am amazed how many people rate this B&B as good. Will definately never go back there again

Thank you for your review Mr Jenkins which we have read copied across multiple platforms upon your departure. We were very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay, even after all our efforts to accommodate your requests. Upon arrival, you did decide to strip the entire bed back and found a small stain on the mattress (underneath the sheet and mattress protector.) Without hesitation, we did offer an alternative room which you liked and were happy with quickly moving you to this without delay. We did offer an alternative lower down for the second night but you declined this and said that the bath only room was fine for your stay. On moving you to the 2nd room, you also wished to have this room recleaned despite it being in perfect order. At all times the member of management who looked after you offered apologies and assistance so we are shocked to read that you did not feel anyone said sorry to you for the small inconvenience of moving to another room when you arrived. We felt we had not only apologised but gone further - put the problem right and given you a larger bedroom. From reading your review it appears we did not do enough although we are lost as to how we could have managed this better. Mistakes do happen in business and we felt we had put things right for you but the scathing reviews left on every social media outlet possible suggest otherwise and we have been left truely saddened by this action. We are sorry you will not be joining us again and do hope you find somewhere that better suits your needs next time you are in Portsmouth.

The staff all were very friendly and helpful. Anna was especially helpful. The room was small but easy to arrange to allow movement. Easy to access power to charge electronics. Breakfasts were good and promptly served. We didn’t have a car while there but noticed that parking was very limited.

Generally a good stay, friendly staff good breakfast. Very low water pressure to basin and odd tap operation. Shower pressure low. My partner would also prefer a wand type shower head to prevent the “water boarding “ effect. In a boutique hotel I would expect a small fridge with fresh milk not the awful sachets provided, i can have these in Burger King! A few small adjustments to this hotel would lift it to the position it should be at.

The property as a whole is the perfect balance of luxury and comfort, the staff were all lovely and more than happy to help- we wouldn't hesitate to come back! Would definitely recommend the breakfast too- it certainly tastes as good as it looks :-)

Furniture in the bedroom is mirrored glass both the wardrobe and one of the bedside cabinets are cracked. The bathroom could do with being freshened up. The room has complimentary water - we asked for some glasses with ice and we were told we would have to pay £2.50!

What a lovely Welcome to this hotel from Marta, who was so friendly and immediately helped us with the car parking and bless her carrying our cases! The rooms are spotless and The Clarence was in a quiet street, although very close to everything. The breakfast was fab and there was a good choice of everything from cooked to continentals to cereal and fruit etc. Again, absolutely nothing was too much trouble for Martha. Only had one night, but would definitely return again to here!

The room was comfortable and furnished with an excellent bed. The bath was very modern and spotlessly clean. Breakfast options were quite varied and well prepared. Staff were most accommodating and professional. We had only two concerns. The first is that the room heating system whined constantly when the heat was on, so we turned it off at night. The other is that only one hand towel in the bath should be upgraded to one for each occupant of the room

the service was outstanding. we had a lovely room with Jacuzzi. enjoyed a nice meal at the pub restaurant round the corner. was nice to have gluten free toast, soya milk and dairy free spread at breakfast
