Poor Experience

Posted Jul 12, 2015 on Hotels
I rarely, and always reluctantly, leave negative feedback but our stay at the Alma Inn was very poor indeed. There is almost no ambience, the host taciturn, the room very basic indeed and, apart from Lux soap tablets, the toiletries of very low quality. There were no small touches at all - Of the 7 hotels/inns that we stayed in on our trip, this was the worst - no biscuits, drinking chocolate, quality toiletries, etc. We had one evening meal there and, when we asked if we should order our meal in the advertised Ristorante, was told 'you can eat in the bar if you want'. Well, we didn't want. The bar was noisy with the few local beer drinkers talking loudly. This is no problem for us but we wanted to enjoy a nice, quiet meal and the sound of the Ristorante was attractive. We moved there, the only diners, and enjoyed a pleasant starter & a freshly cooked pizza (The chef and helper were friendly and chatty). We were then simply left alone in the 'Ristorante' - No dessert or coffee being offered! We took breakfast elsewhere. At £75.00 per night, excl breakfast, the Alma Inn is very poor VFM indeed!

Quiet rural hotel, good beer, friendly service

Working in Sowerby Bridge this small inn is nearby and in a quiet rural location. The menu is simple but wood oven pizza very tasty and the English breakfast well presented. Quality ales and friendly service.
