My wife and I stayed at Super Horizont in Stobrec, just four miles outside of Split. It was a fantastic place to stay, with an absolutely stunning view, unbeatable service, and a 30 second walk down to the beach. It's a stony beach, but just spread your towels out on the flat boulder and you're like royalty! The hotelier, Miro, and his family were exceptionally helpful, which is an important resource when you don't know your way around the city, country, language, etc. They're awesome. Miro was even so kind to get in touch beforehand and arrange a pickup from the airport. Incredible. The village of Strobrec was perfect. Being just a touch outside of Split (only a super easy 10 minute bus ride to downtown and port) was something we enjoyed because the atmosphere is soft, laid back, and there are so many amazing restaurants. Strolling out at night to choose from a galaxy of authentic Croatian restaurants was a highlight. And laying on the balcony with some local beers, a book, and the view was pretty much the best thing in the world. Geographically, Split was perfect for us, as we traveled while were in Croatia, but we never checked out of Horizont. It was our staging ground. The port in Split will take you to a variety of islands and the ferries are very cheap and always on time. Hvar is architecturally stunning with a lot of energy, while Brac (specifically the city of Bol) has one of the best beaches I've ever seen and a way chilled out attitude. You gotta go!
