Hotel with a view

Posted Jan 3, 2016
Pros: In room facilities and the view
Location: Hotel is away from the city and the market, and there is nothing to do nearby
The hotel is well maintained and has very good views of the mountain. The view of the sun set from the room and from the pool are stunning. The hotel is away from the market and there is nothing close by. The rooms are excellent.

Great view, but significantly overpriced

Posted Jan 1, 2016
Pros: The view from the lobby.
Cons: The price is way too high. Massage was mediocre.
Location: Great location for the view.
While the Amaya Hills certainly has great views from the main areas and some of the rooms, the hotel is definitely not worthy of the price it demands. The "Superior" room, which had the view of the parking lot, was a three-star level room at best. Our friends who paid the same exact rate were upgraded to a room with a view of the beautiful valley (which was of course rather unfair), but the room itself was still not that great. While it's somewhat understandable that prices are high during the holiday season, it still does not justify the kind of price that this hotel charges given how old the facilities are.

Ruhig gelegenes Hotel mit toller Aussicht

Posted Oct 12, 2015 on Hotels
Das Hotel befindet sich hoch über Kandy. Dank der erhöhten Lage geniesst man von dort aus eine beeindruckende Aussicht. Die eher etwas kleinen Zimmer sind mit all dem, was man braucht, ausgestattet.

The hotel location is great, it has a very nice view. However, they don't have double bed, if you asks them for that they will arrange two single bed closed to each. Moreover, there are a lot of insects in side the room.

Disappointing 5star hotel

Posted Sep 1, 2015 on Ebookers
The location is good and staff was really friendly. However, the hotel was not of a 5 star standard: 1. Delux room was small, the bathroom tiny and in need of refurbishment. The balcony lacked a table. 2. No bathrobes provided until requested and then they were worn out. Iron arrived at request but without ironing board. 3. Building was noisy, no sound insulation and in need of refurbishment. 4. Room service breakfast was below par. Much better to take buffet in restaurant. 5. Quality of food was variable from good to poor. In fairness when things went wrong staff was very apologetic and food not charged. 6. We had 3 items of clothing damaged in laundry, showing a lack of training. To be fair, we were compensated for damages 7. Some guests one evening decided to bring their own music to pool area, and no action was taken In summary, the hotel has lots of potential, very service minded staff, and a great location, but too much can go wrong. At the moment it is at best a 4 star hotel.

Luxury in the hills

Posted Jul 25, 2015 on Hotels
We booked a room at Amaya Hills at the last minute and were absolutely knocked off our feet when we arrived by tuk tuk from the Kandy train station. The location, on the side of a small mountain above a valley in Kandy, is spectacular. The layout of the hotel is airy and open, capitalizing on the views and cool air of the hills. Service was impeccable, both in the dining room and room service. The reception staff helped book drivers for day trips to attractions like the Temple of the Tooth and Royal Botanical Gardens (highly recommended!).
