The staff at the hotel Berjaya are the highlight of the place. Everyone is so friendly and eager. Nikita was especially helpful at her job, and as a translator for the rest of the staff, she is a true gem. The rooms, although a bit dilapidated, are nice. The AC was very good. Everything could use some maintenance and a fresh coat of paint. The showers could use some careful attention, but they weren't the worst I have seen. The matresses need replacement, I had bloody springs in my back all night, but again, for the cost, it's not unreasonable. The wost part of the whole stay was probably the food. Food safety isn't taught or practiced. Food is half warmed in chafing dishes, not properly held at standard temperature, and although the flavor is good, the quality becomes questionable after you taste it, leaving you with a rumble in the gut and literally caused me to vomit. Although the cooking staff is extremely helpful and excited to serve you, it doesn't make up for what they are serving. Access to the beach is grand. Just watch the trains, and if you don't like the sounds of crows, you should probably stay elsewhere. Overall, our stay was pleasant. It feels like this used to be a grand hotel 20 years ago, but like the place was bought by owners who only stuff their pockets and aren't worried about reinvestment into their property. The wonderful staff definitely deserve better, and the hotel itself which isn't too far gone to save, deserves better as well.

This place is gross. Its dirty, they dont even bother to clean the table cloths, much less the showers. The matresses are at least 10 years old and have been ran over by several steam rollers leaving only the springs that stab you at night. There is no nice way to say this but this place is terrible. It doesnt deserve the rating it has, the staff is the only recompense. They are lovely, kind and courteous. They are very warm and nice. They ade the saving gracw of this once nice hotel.

The property and it's staff are all excellent for the hotel price, big and clean pool, close by the beach, secure access to the beach. Breakfast was great, food was great. Close to Colombo city, you can take bus, touk touk, taxi at a very cheap price. Had a very nice time

Unbeatable value for money. Amazing pool (including kids pool). Attentive and very polite staff. Great buffet breakfast. Larger King beds (largest bed I've seen in a hotel). Whole hotel is in need for a huge renovation, it has seen its best days, you can see signs of aging pretty much everywhere you look but I think we will highly unlikely get the same price after such renovation hence my review score based on the price I paid and the value I've got. It's an amazing stay and we all had a blast.. Highly recommended..

I thought it was under par for the price. Staff generally ok, one especially bright and helpful concierge who went by the name Brito. The buffet spread for lunch and dinner were very forgettable. Most nights i just caught an uber out to wherever i fancied. Good Uber service in the area. Every street was busy. A 12 minute ride can take anywhere upwards of 30 minutes.

Very tired hotel, in need of urgent renovation. Staff were very nice. Room was not cleaned to minimum requirements, Pillows smell, dirty clothing items left behind from previous female guest in my room and stayed there for 3 days until I had to mention it. The pool and sea view was nice however there is a noisy train line between the pool and the beach. you have to cross a dirty path in order to walk across a bridge to get to the beach., this takes too long . this noisy train seems to pass very frequently all day and night so not good for light sleepers. The chefs are not trained for western evening dinners and I had to send 2 main courses back to the kitchen. Just to emphasise this, I have never sent a single dish back to the kitchen in my whole life, this was the first and second time. Im sure the local dishes are fine though. The Mount Lavinia Hotel is far superior and only 15 mins walk away. I walked there every day for dinner and relaxation, this would be my preferred hotel if I ever return to Columbo. This is not a 4 star hotel in any way, I would give this a 1 star personally. This has been my experience, the hotel and cleanliness are poor due to lack of investment, the staff are fantastic though.

Front office and restaurant staff were very helpful, friendly and treated us well. Dinner in the restaurant was good one day and the quality was poor the next day. Definitely needs improvement. We were happy to get driver accommodation. The condition apparently was poor including hygiene, where meals were served.

Very clean and modern hotel. The staff are so kind and have a genuine willingness to help. Great for hosting family in their function rooms for dinner and drinks. We did a couple of times of up to 40 people, great prices, the food is top quality. Stay here if you visit Sri Lanka.

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Room was average, bed was hard pillows were awful, bathroom not so clean. Food in the restaurant was very average. Train line is right next to the hotel and they start blowing the whistle at 5.30am! No water in the pool? Over the other side of the railway line is the bea h the only redeeming feature the hotel has.

The good; great location - 2 mins from the beach and 5 mins from the main road. Welcomed with a drink upon checking in. Hotel staff was friendly. Very flexible with regards to late checkouts. The bad; very dated property - smelly bathroom (smells like sewage), room floor should be mopped daily, needs updated electrical outlets, very spotty WiFi. Wasn’t made aware of late, loud parties at hotel. Pool wasn’t accessible during stay and no prior notice of this was provided.

Our stay in Mount Lavinia
We were looking for a hotel close to the beach in Mount Lavinia that did not cost a fortune. We found this classic colonial hotel with a staff that went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We were able to navigate a complicated immigration process AND take walks and eat delicious dinners along the beach. We could not be more hapy with our experience!

Check in was fast, but I had to remind them about my welcome drink. The room is spacious, bathroom large and modern, and a fridge, tea, toiletries, and water were all in the room. Nice king sized bed, but a little too firm for my liking. Great view of the pool and beach from the balcony. Short walk to the beach and restaurant, which unfortunately didn't have everything on the menu. My 3rd night I went back but it was closed for a private event, and I was insensitively told to have dinner at one of the other restaurants on the beach. Hotel restaurant has ok food, seems like many foods are cooked in excessive butter. I placed my room service breakfast order on the door knob the night before, but nobody retrieved it so I had to call in my order the next morning. On the last day I was called to check out and had to remind them that I was entitled to 2 extra hours before check out. Comfy hotel by the beach, need to be a little more organized. Bellhop was very sweet and helpful.

Nice Hotel at the beach, good for families
the hotel has decent rooms, with large bathroom. all rooms face the sea. between hotel and beach train tracks run parallel to coastline. but no issue to cross, there is also a foot bridge.nois not bad. hotel restaurant is good, but there are also many shacks on the beach with good food. the pool is nice with pool bar. the travel agent is very helpful and organizes tours with short notice at reasonable prices.

They have a good food but the hotel is very old. It is good for one night stay. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Value for money
Friendly staff, the buffet was good and great location. Hotel is in need of maintenance, paintwork. Also the water pressure in showers also an issue. The hotel also had a number of weddings/seminars so can be noisy at night, and its right next to a train line. These things didn't bother us but something to consider

Good hotel for what you pay.
I had a room at the end of the hotel close to the sea and the railway. Trains start running at 4.45 am. Very noicy with there horns. Avarage breakfast. No safe or iron in the room. Cleaning staff knocking on your door at 9.30 asking at what time are you checking out. value for what you pay.

They have charged hidden charges forcefully for gala dinner as compulsion. We had planned our new year party and dinner outside the hotel but the hotel manager forcefully asked us to pay 140 per couple which is more than my hotel room cost Else my booking was declared cancelled So I had to bargain for 2 hrs to reduce it to 100 dollar per couple Very upset

Good Location but not up to the mark
We stayed here for 2 nights and right from the start felt that the property has not been maintained well. It has a great location and easy access to the beach. The breakfast is very poorly displayed and not much effort is taken in the same. They need to do a lot on their breakfast. Cleanliness f the bathroom is poor and mud cleaned and collected was left in the balcony for 3 days till we checked out. The second days breakfast was in a banquet hall ( Peacock) which really looked like a left over buffet set up. They have functions in the hotel whereby the noise decibels can be clearly heard in the rooms till 12 midnight and beyond. We had this on both the nights. Though breakfast was included we had the staff raise a bill raised which was voided later. No value for money.

Lovely hotel with great service. The staff were helpful and quick in assisting me when my room key was stuck and wouldn't work.

Wedding ring missing
All was reasonable until I left behind my wedding ring next to sink and forgot to pick up - checked out and discovered afterwards I’d left it behind. I called the reception to locate and find and I would collect, but reception notified me that “they could not find the ring“. Someone is going to have a good payday as it was a platinum ring, and it was my stupid fault for taking it off in the first place but my band finger had some irritation in the heat, or a mossie bite. I didn’t make a police complaint or anything like that, as it was my own stupid fault for taking off. But highly unlikely I will ever use a Berjaya hotel again. For anyone who is already booked, they do provide safes And recommend that you use them
