Nice hotelPosted Feb 15, 2018
Staff very friendly and attentive. Food excelent and good value for money. Only complaint was that the room was a bit small, and the en-suite was also small and cramped. However, considering what we paid for the room, these are only minor complaints and wouldn't put us off staying here again.

On plus side room clean enough and there is parking. Also if you don't mind a 20 minute walk the town centre is not far away with plenty of places to eat. Hotel and room could do with a quite a bit of modernisation, quite a lot of niggles, too many to mention. The main one was probably the shower which wasn't great and became scalding hot with just the slightest adjustment,

Adequate hotel. Clean linen, room, nice towels and bed comfortable. Fairly small rooms which were rather old fashioned décor. Convenient 15 minute walk into the centre of St Albans. Shower fairly weak, which was probably a good thing because drainage from the shower tray was extremely slow and it would be easy to flood the bathroom. Breakfast choices good - cooked and continental options. Large breakfast room. Staff pleasant. I was definitely glad I had used a discount and hadn't had to pay full price, but slept well and it provided what I needed for one night. WiFi worked well.

Edwardian in more ways than you might expectPosted Oct 28, 2017
This hotel is a collection of Edwardian era houses that have been refurbished to bring them closer to modern expectations while retaining period character. The houses have some fine touches but they also have some less appealing features - such as hauling luggage up flights of stairs, and that Old England chill from under heated rooms on rainy days. It is probably at its best in the spring and summer months. In any event, it is at one end of the historic centre, a fair walk from the cathedral and the Verulanium (Roman) museum but in good weather that would be quite pleasant. The restaurant does a fine breakfast.
