"Hotel, staff, beaches"
The beaches at Caneel Bay are some of the most beautiful ones on the island. The location cannot be beat. For the most part the staff is lovely and friendly, an occasional cold person but not too many. The hotel room was fine (older and a little dated) but very comfortable and pleasant just the same. Rooms are impeccably cleaned. Housekeeping staff could not be nicer. I understand from another guest who has been there 6 times in the last 50 years that the hotel just signed 2 years ago a 40 year lease with the government for the use of this state park and as such they are beginning renovations. The premium oceanfront rooms have been renovated and are lovely according to this guest (bathrooms are larger.) And the hotel plans on renovating all rooms eventually. The grounds are nice 175 acres and very walkable. The 2 restaurants are terrific. The grille restaurant has a lovely second floor terrace overlooking the harbor. Great spot for a meal or drinks at night. Zo-zos is special but expensive. Breakfasts are great but very expensive. Deer and donkeys abound on the property adding a pleasant touch. Overall, I would come back again and reserve an oceanfront room. A great place to vacation.

"Clean, comfortable, close to everything you need"
Small but very clean and comfortable. Owner and staff are very friendly and helpful. Relaxed at the porch, having a lot of plants. Free bug spray and aloe cream were helpful. We could go and find everything we need in St John, within five minutes walk from the hotel. Free beach towels, which we could use on the last day and we do not have to worry about bringing dump towels back to home. Complementary breakfast is simple, including oatmeal, two kind of pastries, pound cakes, banana, apple, milk and coffee. Felling very good to eat breakfast at porch and ready to go today's activities!

"Beautiful luxury "camping" experience"
My boyfriend and I stayed in an Eco-Studio for 2 nights and had a really hard time leaving at the end of our short stay. We are from Minnesota and do a fair amount of real camping (tents, campfires, etc) in the Midwest, but have never been to USVI before and had no idea what to expect. Overall, we both loved the studio we stayed in and plan on returning for a longer stay in the future. I don't think either of us could do anything closer to camping on the islands because of the climate. It was about 80 deg. and sunny every day of our stay and only dropped 2-4 deg. at night. This was 70 deg. hotter than where we came from, so the fans in the studio were certainly appreciated. The strong ocean breeze also kept us from overheating in the sun and we couldn't have asked for better weather. The view from our balcony was absolutely gorgeous, day and night, and we couldn't get enough of it. During the day, beautiful forest, wildlife, and ocean views and at night, more stars in the sky than I had ever seen before. At night there were a few bugs (type of ants and gnats maybe) inside even though we always kept the front door and the screen door shut, but they were harmless, minor nuisances. The screen door was floppy and not firmly on the track, so that might be how they got in. The hike down to the beach was much further and steeper than I expected, but it was absolutely worth it! Snorkeling in Salt Pond Bay was fantastic! We saw more marine life than I can list here!

"Right where we wanted to be!"
The location of this hotel is perfect because we felt like we were right there with the locals and not at some stuffy resort. It was an at home atmosphere with a super nice and helpful staff! Hoping to book for next year early!

"Great place for a home away from home (but better)"
I can't say enough how much my family and I liked the Sea Shore Allure. It is located in a corner of St. John away from the hustle and bustle of Cruz Bay (so plan on cab fees or rent a vehicle like we did). The views are spectacular and the place is seriously what you would expect from a Westin or Ritz Carlton Residences. Things like a full gourmet kitchen, rain showers in the bathrooms, high end sound equipment and TV and a modern/transitional interior make this place one that we will be coming back to visit.

Pocket Guide: St. John, St. John Shopping Hotels

The smallest of the Virgin Islands, St. John covers only 28 square miles. Virgin Islands National Park takes up two-thirds of it, and includes the popular Trunk Bay, Annaberg Sugar Plantation, and Watermelon Cay. Streets wind through colorful buildings in Cruz Bay, the biggest town and center of the island’s tourism. Many locals live in the more laid-back Coral Bay area, on the island’s east side.
