The Gateway Arch, or the St. Luis arch to the West. Part of the Jefferson National Memorial. The observation deck is 630 feet up and is the tallest manmade monument in the United States. It opened in 1967 and you could either walk to the top or take a very interesting elevator to the top, small capsules that fit five people and zig zag their way to the top in four minutes. As I drove into St. Luis it can be seen above the horizon and because it is stainless steel shines bright as you come in. To anyone who can, I would say go, Seeing it in person it is immense! When seeing it form a distance it doesn't really look that big, but up close, looking straight up to the top it is incredible! Found this bridge??? While walking north from the arch. It's in an old abandoned building/factory district. This specific bridge is behind an@old brick factory and next to a working electric plant. It is one of the oddest things I've seen. It didn't seem to have a purpose, but it is delicately built, seems to be in working order, and does go over a road, I'll be it at 6-7 feet A beautiful spot to check out the artworks, and spend a little time in nature. Only a small moment in ones life. But a wonderful day with my wife and person who puts up with my nonsense. The arch is a really cool monument in St. Louis. One of the more comical and great things to do here is see all the people become professional photographers. You will see people holding the arch, King Kong like. Or laying down and getting the photo straight up. It was great seeing everyone using it to get some amazing photos with family and friends. I had tons of people come up asking for me to take their photo, or ask what I was doing (I had a bag and tripod of camera equipment). I actually like this one; you can't even tell it's an arch, more Washington monument style.
You can see the airplane flying over. When the Arch was first erected a lot of pilots would try to fly through the arch, illegally. One hit the arch, and the dent in the arch is still there. Try to find it when you go, it is on the North side. This is the view from the top, at 630 feet! You can see Cardinal's stadium on the left and the capitol, library, and gateway park straight ahead. the entire area has tons of things to do, and being on the river you can truly see the A visit to St Louis. A lot of construction going on around this right now. However still quite a site. Old Courthouse, St Louis. Be sure to stop by, quite beautiful. We adore visiting the Missouri Botanical Garden any chance we get. It has year round exhibits and festivals that are all unique and often celebrating various cultures. In the summer we have enjoyed going to the free jazz festivals, the Chinese Lantern Festival (Summer), Japanese Festival (Labor Day weekend), and the Festival of Lights (winter).

Look at the micromachine cars moving around.
This was taken with a super wide lens. I think about 160 degrees. You can see the bottom of the arch down at the bottom. I went as the arch opened. 9 am. Which I would highly recommend. Why? The shadow. Any other time the shadow is not as long, or is on the other side of the arch. I didn't really realize how amazing the shadow could be until seeing it up here. So go early, get reservations during the summer months for the first tram up. Also, the first tram means no lines, no crowds, so I got a ton of photos. Great arch of St. Louis. Another photo from around Eads bridge.
#BvsCities The StLouis Arch. Go up in it and enjoy the view. St Louis - Arch St. Louis Arch, St. Louis, MO Tunnels, multi-floor slides, enchanted caves...brilliant! A must see family destination. Not many people think about looking East from the arch, after all it is the gateway to the West. But east it is a great plain and river. This was looking up the arch to the East. you can really see the worn Stainless steel and how many hands have touched this great landmark. If you are ever in St. Louis be sure to check this small park and its art collection. Big Suit by Erwin Wurm 2010. Great place to visit if you have children. Great architecture. I haven't been to a show, but the tour is well worth it. View from the Metro station... This thing is a monster!! Was a tiny bit scary the ride to the top, but the view and sunset from there was well worth it. The cost was only $10.00 and I stayed as long as I liked. Fantastic 🙌🏻 A really beautiful, blue-sky day. I love the way the blue in the sky reflected off the Arch. #StunningStructures Caught these two lounging about at the St. Louis Zoo. This landmark of the cityscape of St Louis is even more impressive after a visit to the visitor center, where you can watch a video that shows you how the arch was built and learn how the arch compares to other American icons such as the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore. The tram to the top of the arch is closed until March 2017 for upgrading. Brewhouse ca 1891 St. Louis Arch. Onwards & Upwards : Tallest Arch & Tallest man-made monument signifies the westward expansion of United States #gatewayarch #stlouis #manmademiracles #lifeatexpedia #630feettall #missouri The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot tall monument in St. Louis, Missouri. Clad in stainless steel and built in the form of an inverted, weighted catenary arch, it is the world's tallest arch, the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, and Missouri's tallest accessible building. Built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States, it is the centerpiece of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and has become an internationally famous symbol of St. Louis. The arch sits at the site of St. Louis' founding on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The Gateway Arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen in 1947; construction began on February 12, 1963, and was completed on October 28, 1965, for $13 million (equivalent to $190 million in 2015. The monument opened to the public on June 10, 1967. Ginger, the baby Orangutan born at the St.Louis Zoo trying to kiss the hand of the person on the other side of the glass. When in St. Louis. The arch was so pretty at dusk and probably easier to photograph since the sun wasn't directly overhead. Standing in the Mississippi river, near the parking area for the shuttle that leads to the Gateway Arch. I love this because you can see 4 different types of architecture, from 4 different times. The old stone bridge has been made into a highway, and so has the iron bridge in the background. To the right is a railroad that connects to the east coast and Chicago. And in the top right is the Gateway Arch itself.
#Train I was born along the Mississippi River, and lived near the spot where Louis and Clark put their boats in the river to start their westward journey. This place (East Alton, IL) is right across the River from St. Louis.
St. Louis is a great city. As a teenager, I sometimes bussed over to the city to find folk LPs that were not available in my neck of the woods. The zoo is one of the best in the USA. #GatewayArch I was pleasantly surprised at the surrounding area of the Arch. It had a very nice walkway lined with gorgeous tree's, very relaxing ( I should have taken some photos of that!) Also a short walk, many restaurants and bars. ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
