Beautiful resort with a true cultural flavor

Posted May 13, 2017
Pros: Private cottages, great pools, beautiful grounds, friendly staff
Location: Close to Sulpher Springs, ziplining, Sofriere, botanical garden and waterfall, Sugar Beach and hiking the Gros Piton.
From the driver who picked us up from the airport, every staff person was super friendly and accommodating. The grounds were beautiful- no need to go to the botanical gardens because this place was just as beautiful. We enjoyed the casual breakfast, live music at night.

True St. Lucia Experience!

Posted Apr 27, 2017 on Orbitz
Pros: Staff, pool, plantation, restaurant, facility, serenity, ambience.
Cons: Kitchen, bathroom in some cottages.
Location: Sulfur Spring, Anse Chastanet, Sugar Beach, Snorkeling, Tet Paul Nature Trail, Fond Doux's very own Lamontagne trail.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed Fond Doux! Best part of it was the awesome staff from the owner to our guide to chef, restaurant staff, and just about everyone there. Even other guests were nice, and we greeted every morning and night sharing precious experience. If you want quiet, there are lots of spaces to yourselves as well. Restaurant was great and decently priced (compared to infrared prices at other restaurants in Soufriere). Breakfast (included) offered a variety of tasteful food every morning, prepared with real fruit and organic vegetables they grow in the garden. Definitely take the plantation tour and join Zumba on Mon, Wed, Fri evenings. Sessions come with wonderful local experience after exercise. Accommodation is charming and spacious cottage decorated with genuine furniture, art and fabric. We recommend Fond Doux to anyone looking for true St. Lucian experience and serenity unless you are looking for luxurious 5-star accommodation. Other recommendation: "Feel Good Water Taxi & Tours." Cornell for taxi and rental car; his brother Daniel for boat trips and snorkeling. They are both really nice, and prices are negotiable. (We do not recommend driving in St. Lucia by yourself. Roads are really bad.) Cornell gave us useful information about St. Lucia; Daniel took us to "VERY GOOD" snorkeling points upon our requests. Beaches - We liked Anse Chastanet better than Sugar Beach, but try both if you have time!

A little piece of Paradise

The staff was so helpful and gracious. Most had a wonderful sense of humor and they were very attentive. I loved the Zumba class followed by a hike to sulphur springs at sunset time.

Great local vibe and eco-friendly property

Posted Apr 5, 2017
Pros: What I loved about this place is that it was locally owned.
Cons: No
Location: Tet Paul, Sulfur Springs, Pitons, Sugar Beach, Plantation Tour, Snorkeling
Staying here made us feel like we were part of St. Lucia. The property was lush and the cottages were private, as a result. I spent more time on our patio than I could remember of any trip I’ve ever taken. I also think this attracts a certain type of person – everyone we met had stories of what they did that day. In my experience, staying at an all-inclusive or “corporate” resort, it seems most people tend to never really leave the property. What I loved about this place is that it was locally owned. Also, no matter where we went when a local asked where we were staying they seemed to glow or give us approval of our choice. That was a good feeling, too. The property itself doesn’t feel that big to me but I also felt, at times, like we owned it. So many times it seemed like we were the only ones there. We had some pool time where it was just the two of us. Only in the early afternoon when tour groups were coming through did we see people and even then it wasn’t a nuisance of any kind. I really liked that the breakfasts were included as we were able to load up and really not need much until dinner. We did do lunch once and the fish sandwich was outstanding. We did dinner once as well but that’s when we tried to get out to other places. The type of people who stay here seem to be the ones who want to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Natural and beauty setting-working plantation

Posted Apr 4, 2017
Pros: Peaceful, quiet and secluded. Very Unique, not your typical resort. Very Staff. Knowledgeable and accommodating owners
Location: Tet Paul Nature Trail, Sulphur Springs, Zipline & Aerial Adventure Park
We stayed in a 250 year old colonial home called the Angelina Villa. Very spacious and beautiful home. Full amenities. We had a free breakfast buffet every morning which was included in our price. The resort was gated and had security guards, so I did feel very safe. We had a tour of the plantation by the owners son which was very interesting. There are hiking trails within the plantation and nearby. The resort is situated amidst a 250 year old working plantation and features an assortment of 15 cottages/homes , two on-site restaurants, several outdoor swimming pools & a spa. We traveled to Sugar Beach/resort which the resort offers a free shuttle. That beach was gorgeous, great views of Pitons, great food and snorkeling and water activities. Overall a great time and a very unique experience. My only concern is....this house has a lot of windows which all have screens (so no bugs) but you are not able to close any of the windows. It is an open air environment. At night there is constant and loud chatter of all the night time bugs/insects/birds/frogs etc. My suggestion is bring ear plugs to help with the outside sounds. There is no air conditioning, but there were ceiling fans. I felt the temperature at night was just right for me, not too hot, there was a constant breeze. We traveled in mid March. Also there is no TV, but there is so much to do and see that I did not realize that until the 4th day!!!

Unique hotel in rainforest

Posted Mar 14, 2017
This hotel is lovely. The staff are helpful, friendly, and diligent. The grounds and buildings are well maintained. Visitors should know that you are 'stuck' there if you don't rent a car. You can hire a taxi through the hotel, but it doesn't provide the same freedom. Also, you cannot walk to the beach- there are daily shuttles to Sugar Beach.

Tranquility in the jungle.

Posted Jan 22, 2017 on Hotels
We stayed in the honeymoon suite for 4 nights and loved it. The cabins were far enough apart that it felt like we had the place to our self. We enjoyed using the plunge pool and spent much of our time sitting out on the porch and enjoying the tranquility of the place. The service at this hotel is first rate. Upon arrival, the check in process involved nothing other than a welcome and a rum punch. While we sat on the porch drinking, the staff got the bags from our car and took them to our room. The first morning we overslept breakfast by 15 minutes and the staff came up and asked if we would be joining them. We were the last and only ones at breakfast and the staff didn't make us feel feel rushed or unwelcome. If we find our way back to St. Lucia I would have a hard time considering another place to stay.

Food poor

Posted Dec 15, 2016
Pros: Our cottage and the setting is just beautiful and the staff are very friendly.
Cons: More choice on the menu and portion size increased. Communal area mot feeling like sat in a car park and better lighting in this area.
Location: Location excellent but you do need a car or hire a taxi for the day to get to all the sights.
Very limited choice on menu and same menu every day. Portions very small and side orders consisted of around 3 carrots, 1 piece of broccoli and a bit of onion. If you visit here and do not have a car there are no shops that you can walk to to get food or snacks or even a drink so you are totally reliant on what the resort is offering. The communal area to sit outside to enjoy a drink and chat to other guests is more like a dark car park. The area around the pool was not looked after, no water in the dispenser and no cups, The sun lounger cushions had been left outside for many days and had filled up with water so could not use them on any of the days we were there.

Hello, We appreciate all aspects of your review – the good (accommodations and the friendliness of the staff) as well as the bad (Menu offerings and facilities). We do apologize that we did not meet and exceed your expectations in many aspects of your stay and accept full responsibility for that. Our resort’s location is one of our many success factors and provides guests with the beauty of both a natural rainforest setting and magical experience of living on a 250- year-old traditional working plantation. The resort is in proximity to most restaurants and the scenic town of Soufriere. Your comments about the menu selections and portion sizes have been well received and we are in the process of extending our menus to include more variety. There is subdued lighting in the courtyard yard area which creates a very private and romantic setting for guests to enjoy a drink and chat. Thank you once again for choosing to stay with us and we appreciate all feedback as our guest experience is of utmost importance to us. We do hope that you will give us another opportunity to make it up to you in a future visit. Best Regards, Eroline and Lyton Lamontagne
