"A relaxing and fun honeymoon!"
We just got back from 7 days at Sonesta Ocean Point. $8 cab ride from the airport. When we arrived at the main resort, we were immediately greeted and whisked off to the adults-only Ocean Point. The busboy had our luggage right behind us as we were taken to our room by the butler - we had a swim out room on the first floor. We did the check in process with the butler, in our room - complete with a bottle of champagne and a fruit/cheese plate. From the get-go we were impressed and excited. We ate mostly at Azul - delicious breakfast, a dinner menu that changes nightly, and great views. When we ventured to the non-adult only parts, there were very few kids. I think it was just a non-peak time for St. Maarten overall. The pools were quiet, relaxing, and a great way to spend the day. Only real negative: bar service at the pool happened, but at times it could take a very long time. At times, we just went down to the bar ourselves to get our drinks. Only really concerning because of how not-busy it was there. Could be way worse during peak season. Overall the service was good, the food was good, the views were great. Some folks have complained about airplane noise, but really, it was pretty cool watching the planes, and that never got old to us. Would definitely recommend renting a car and exploring the island - both Dutch and French sides. Shout out to Sheryl at the Point Bar - she made the best after-lunch mudslides each day!

"Brilliant, Unique and Lovely Boutique Hotel"
The Marquis Boutique Hotel is a wonderful, hidden getaway on the top of the mountain overlooking Anse Marcel Beach. The staff (thanks much to Christina, Cecilia and Ana), hotel and views are all first-class. Yes, it is a bit of an adventurous ride to get there in a 1.2l Hyundai (if you are staying on the French St. Martin side a rental car is all but a must), but well worth it as it provides a great base at the northern tip of the island to go exploring. The hotel overlooks the beach and the much more generic Riu All-Inclusive resort (thank goodness we did not stay there), and is an easy drive once you get the lay of the land to the Grand Case restaurants (which is really more of an alley:) and to the more touristy but grand Orient Bay. A must-visit as was suggested us by the Marquis staff was Friar's Bay and from there a short hike to the lovely and quite hidden "Happy Beach" We did our research but were still a bit surprised at how "raw" much of Saint Martin still is - if you are looking for an easy, all-inclusive Caribbean experience then this may not be for you or may want to stick to the more 'Western" Dutch side of the island. But if you like some adventure, driving straight up mountains on semi-paved roads and experiencing a touch of French language and culture in the West Indies, then this is a wonderful place to gain some memories.

"The hotel is under renovation."
The hotel is under renovation so some of the things that you expect from a fully functional hotel may not be available. However, do not let this stop you from enjoying the accommodations offered. We were there for 15 days. For 13 days there was no beach just rocks. On the night number twelve there was a storm and it brought all the sand back onto the beach at the rear of the hotel covering the rocks. The beach comes and goes at the weather changes. I have found this true about many beaches on St. Maarten and Saint Martin. There are hot tubs on all ocean view rooms. However, during the renovations many did not work. Clean towels are supplied every day. On two occasions no bath towels were supplied. The first day no correction were made even after calling the front desk. On the second day the bath towels were delivered after a phone call to the front desk. The kitchen utilities are unusual. We had no frying pan and no pitcher. Our room was equipped to sleep four. We had 12 coffee cups, 3 small glasses, 2 soup bowls. The pots and pans were not in the best of shape. Thankfully there were only the two of us. Also no dish towels are supplied. Since there was only the to of us I did not feel like using the dish washer for just a few plates and glasses. I used the bathroom towels to dry the dishes. If you can put up with these minor issues, do go there.

"Great location, food was VERY good at the buffet"
The buffet is the BEST and the BBQ beach party was great. The oven bake pizza was to die for!!! While checking in i was told i was getting 2 beds but instead got a room with a single bed and had to literally got to 4 rooms until one came up as a double bed. That part got very annoying but at one point got a complimentary upgrade to a room but it ended up being a single bed so couldn't take it. The beds were comfortable, bathroom was nice except there was some broken tile pieces. Just less then 2 minutes from the airport to the hotel by taxi. OVerall I would return to this hotel because of the location and the price wasn't bad because i got a little discount through the site i was using.

"We had the best time! "
Okay so if you booked this hotel or are wanting to book but are iffy about doing so because of some of the horrible reviews people wrote about the hotel being old, the food being terrible, & the employees being rude, my husband & I just came back from our honeymoon & we had the best time of our lives! I actually tried getting my refund multiple times because I was so worried about the hotel from reading some bad reviews. They weren't able to do a refund so we pretty much just had to suck it up & see for ourselves what the hotel was all about. First of all the island itself is amazing! The waters are clear, the people from the island are super friendly, & the weather is always warm! So the taxi ride to the hotel was $20 as I read it would be in other people's comments. We were greeted with cool towels & champagne. The front desk manager is the one who checked us in & I wish I remembered her name but she was beyond amazing! Check out was easy with no issues. We stayed on the first floor which was recently renovated with your own personal cabana. It was a nice touch. Yes the rooms are very plain & outdated but our plan was to not stay in the room for our honeymoon. They actknowleded that it was our honeymoon & had chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us in our room. That was nice of them. Our showerhead or pressure of the water was perfect. We didn't have any issue with that like other people did. Another thing people complained about in reviews was the musty smell.

    Dreamy Weather Almost Every Day

There are two times of year to get cheap deals on the best resorts in St. Martin: May through June and between November and mid-December. The weather is ideal year-round with temperatures holding steady in the 80s, rarely falling below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. St. Martin is considered a dry climate with minor rainfall, typically less than 5 inches a month, only occurring from June to December.

    Things to Do

Because of the glorious weather and crystal clear water surrounding the island, water-based tourism is St. Martin's top attraction. Snorkeling is popular with visitors who want to explore sea life and the surrounding coral reefs, and a variety of companies can take you out on the waves for some of the best spots. Spend your day on a deep-sea fishing trip or book an all-day trip with a scuba diving company to find the area's most well-known diving locales.

When you've had enough of the saltwater, head inland to experience the region's culture. Loterie Farm was founded in 1773 and ran for over a century as a sugar plantation. It now serves as a family-oriented destination with guided hikes through the rainforest and exhilarating zip lines.

There's no nightlife quite like St. Martin nightlife. Maho Village has a reputation for being the Las Vegas of the Caribbean with trendy nightclubs and casinos, and shopping opportunities abound. The West India Mall overlooks the Marigot waterfront and is filled with high-fashion boutiques and fantastic restaurants. The French side of St. Martin boasts luxury fashion boutiques as well as shops that sell textiles, antiques, and cosmetics.

The all-inclusive resorts entice their guests with lavish buffets, tempting a la carte menus, drinks for all ages, and various activities. Choose from an exclusive menu of massages, body treatments, facials, and hair treatments. You'll return to the beach with a glowing body and languid mind. The resort's sparkling pools are a relaxing break from the crashing waves. Whether you want to do a few laps before dinner or soak in the infinity pool, do so with a cocktail in hand as you watch the sun sink behind the Caribbean Sea.

Getting the Lay of the Land

St. Martin sits in the middle of the Antilles Archipelago and is just 37 square miles in size. Though small, it varies in geography. On the southern portion, the landscape is low-lying with lagoons and salt pans. As you move inland, the terrain starts to get more rugged with hills and lush valleys. Pic Paradis is the highest point on the island at 1,400 feet. Cacti and palm trees can be found in equal amounts as well as thick populations of tropical flowers like hibiscus and clusters of untouched forests.

Impressive beaches, idyllic weather, and luxurious hotels in St. Martin are just the start of what this destination has to offer. If you've been dreaming of freshly caught seafood and waving palms as you imbibe a frosty cocktail, head to to start booking your cheap flights to St. Martin now.
