Meh
Old hotel, run down, but bed was comfortable. Cleanliness was meh, breakfast was meh, only stale bagels, raisin bread, eggo waffles, cereal and almost ripe fruit. It served it's purpose: cheap and close to downtown. But evening staff seemed bothered that we were pulling her away from her phone when we arrived at 5:30 p.m. she only spoke the bare minimum and didn't welcome us or smile. The walls in the room were dirty around the door was dirty.

A real find in downtown Staunton. Although it’s an old hotel facility, the rooms are clean, spacious, and well furnished. The breakfast buffet has cereals, wonderful breads, fruits, and great coffee. The Blackfriars Theater is a ten minute walk. Restaurants are located nearby. We are making this place our go-to spot for our visits to Staunton.

Unlikely to stay there again.
The beds were comfy and the linens were good quality and soft. The orange, gold, tan and dark brown colors in the lobby and on the walls were awful and remained from the 1970’s. There were cracks in the walls and it looked like the building should be razed and rebuilt. There was an ongoing altercation with a woman who had been denied a room when I entered the lobby that continued until I had my keys. The woman taking registration did her best to ignore the uproar, but she was clearly upset by the yelling. . The breakfast was disappointing,We received one key card that did not work

A fine property for a short stay in Staunton. Proximity to the downtown area makes it an ideal spot for the solo traveler or couple to explore the area's events and night spots.

When so many places are charging $200 per night, it was nice to find a clean, quiet hotel that was affordable.

This Howard Johnson was a great deal for a great location. It was just a short walking distance from lovely downtown Staunton. We stayed for a weak to explore Staunton and are glad we picked this motel.

The property is unique if you consider "throwback" unique. It looks tired and worn and the attention to detail (not!) reflects that. The "free" breakfast is a joke and lazily created. No protein, nothing but regular milk and regular coffee. Too many people walking around with cigarettes. Rooms smell stale and 1/2 remodeled. TV option is ridiculous. Who uses analog?

On the whole, everything was just average except the lobby was very attractive. It's obvious that this is an older property and the rooms have been renovated/painted many times. The elevator was cramped and could use a little TLC. BUT, the king bed was comfy and we slept well which is really what you want, right?!

After long day driving with my pregnant wife and 2 year old ,we ware just looking for something clean to sleep and continue in our trip Room was smelling musty like some was smoking there before us ,but the worst part was ,how dirty was the toilet ….. I can’t believe they didn’t clean it and letft it like this for new people check in I would not stay there ever again ,I was trusting orbits to offer some decent hotels for decent price But this is not the frst time ,from now on I’m not using orbits any more ….

Bargain old style motel.
Convenient hotel in the center of Staunton. Cleanliness was good except for the caulking around the bath tub which was mouldy. Breakfast was lacking in choices, with only toast or bagels plus butter and jam. In addition, the rooms are old style motel, with balconies on the outside of the building. The elevator was faster than most. Considering the price, which was low, not a bad value overall though. We enjoyed our night in Staunton.

Our room was filthy and had bugs. The breakfast was just as bad. Rotten fruit, food spilled all over and nobody cleaning it up. The silverware tray, sugar and creamer tray as well as the muffin and bread tray were on the disgusting side. Would never go back

Overall very good

The room was not cleaned properly, there was food on the floor from a previous guest. The beds were very uncomfortable. Upon checkin, I was handed our keys, that was pretty much it. She never explained check out process, breakfast times etc. Not friendly at all. Now, on Saturday as we were leaving to head to a wedding, a gentleman behind the counter was super friendly, loved it! He was the only one. At checkout time Sunday morning, the guy acted like I was bothering him, I know it was 5am but I needed a receipt and needed to get on the road for a 12 hour drive.

Just ok. The air conditioner worked well enough on its coldest setting. Same with the shower; using only hot it was warm enough to shower. Breakfast was continental. They offered toaster stuff. Hot tea and oatmeal were available, but no hot water. The beds were comfortable and the room looked clean.

It was old and rundown. Much worse than the picture. Paint chipping. Dirty warped floors. Terrible night. A car alarm went off at 430am. No one went to check it out!! It went for like 20inutes. Then another alarm went off. Saw some guys in dark hoodies hanging out. No one checked!!! Scary. I barely slept. Alarm went off again at 530 am. No one checked!!!

I’m a Mary Baldwin alumna and I’ve stayed at this property through numerous ownerships since the 1980s because of its proximity to the college. It’s not a luxury room, but it’s clean and the staff is nice and it’s convenient to the college and downtown area. I’ll probably stay there again.

Room was disgusting.. walked in, looked around, and walked out! hotel.. Extremely Dated, with damaged walls, bathroom was most definately unclean! Have stayed at many Wyndham properties in the past, but will never again.
