Hard to beat for the price and location

Posted Feb 9, 2017
The Ptarmigan Inn is in a prime ski-in/ski-out location near Steamboat's Gondola Square. It has a restaurant, free wifi, in-house Christy's ski rental location, and a ski concierge. For half of what you would pay for a room at an 'updated' hotel, it would be hard to beat for the location and convenience. While little has been done to shed its late-60's/early-70s origins, for those of us who spent a lot of time skiing in the 1970's, it feels wonderfully (perhaps even wistfully) familiar. Would stay here again.

Wonderful experience! Rented skiis at the hotel. Valet service for equipment. Generous bar. Great accommodations and hot tub! Ski access to gondola. Will definitely be staying here in the future!!

Great ski in-ski out hotel

Posted Jan 30, 2017
Pros: The great staff and location on the slopes
Cons: Larger bath towels, small gymnasium facilities
Location: Plenty of places to eat in downtown Steamboat, easily accessed by free and frequent bus service. The hot springs are definitely worth a visit.
Staff at the Ptarmigan are always helpful and friendly with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Great location on the slopes, great hot-tub and pool, happy hour at bar. Clean and well organised, although perhaps some small upgrades required, but really good value for money. We have stayed at other (more expensive) places in Steamboat Springs but have come back to the Ptarmigan as it is our favourite.

Upgraded from a cave to a slightly less cavey cave. The property was virtually empty, as the ski season has not started. You would think that they would put people in nicer rooms to promote reform business. Kind of a dump. Nice front desk people.
