"Beautifully furnished hotel in the old town"
The hotel has wonderful antique furniture from a bygone age and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and well maintained. The only slightly negative point was the intermittent wi-fi. The overall experience was a very enjoyable stay.

"Princess treatment"
From the moment I arrived I was given excellent treatment by the staff, greeted by name and met with a cold towel and fresh fruit juice at check in. I was given a complimentary upgrade to one of the superior suites which had many nice little touches of hospitality. The complimentary breakfast was very generous and had many more options than most places I have stayed before. They also arranged for me to have a very late check out from my room to accommodate my early evening departure time. Was glad I decided to "treat myself" to more than a budget hotel because I was certainly treated well by this hotel.

"Very nice boutique hotel in Stone town."
This booking was a bit last minute as we were already in Zanzibar. We were extremely fortunate to find this hotel. Room was big and comfortable in the third level. Beautiful old wood decorations. Very clean. Quiet. Had meals at the restaurant a few times and all were very good. Location was close to bars, restaurants, shopping and a small beach.

"Nice Stay at a Historical Building"
This building has alot of history. It used to be a old English club, which, after the 1964 revolution, was converted to a hotel. I like the old arabeque architecture. It is on the shore, but no direct access to the beach. Also many of the rooms do not face seaward. Overall a nice stay.

"Intimate hotel in the heart of things"
We spent 9 days in this boutique hotel. It was lovely, our room was so cute with lovely touches from flowers on the bed on arrival to towels laid out in different style each day (even a heart to end our stay). It was beautifully turned down twice a day and made us feel so welcomed. Our room was lovely as a romantic as retreat and to get out of the madness of he markets. What truly made the hotel was the lovely, thoughtful, ever smiling and helpful staff. Those there morning until night working tirelessly to ensure our needs were met, from room service, freshly squeezed juices to providing a pandit when my partner felt unwell. They went above and beyond with even the guy there coming out to translate for us when our rental car was broken into. Neema, Jacq, Lucy were wonderful and full of smiles, jokes and warm welcomes. We were very impressed by our boxed breakfast when we had to leave for the airport at 3am and our wake up calls. Their evening restaurant was lovely and the chef really paid attention to detail with his food. My only issue at the hotel would be we chose the room that was on a busy noisier side (fine at night as the AC drowned out the noise) but the room was so lovely we didn't really mind. Perhaps good to have more guide books, points of interest knowledge and maps but I found all the amazing places to go from trip advisor to be honest. The location was perfect not too on the main road and near the markets.

"Lovely Stone Town B&B with Welcoming Hosts"
A friend and I had a fantastic weekend staying in Stone Town at Rosal B&B. Beds were comfortable, showers were hot and breakfast was great, with a view of the town from the rooftop restaurant! A staff member met us at the ferry which was so nice because it's easy to get turned around when you arrive. Rose and Al made great suggestions for sightseeing and arranged for guides to meet us at the hotel, and we had a fantastic time!

Pocket Guide: Zanzibar Town Stone Town Independent Hotels

Carved wooden doors punctuate the narrow alleys that interlace the coral stone houses, shops, bazaars, and mosques of this ancient city on the Indian Ocean. Along the seafront, the Palace of Wonders and Sultan's Palace have been dedicated as museums to Swahili and Zanzibar culture. Visitors can also tour the Hamani Persian Baths or visit the Old Fort for daily performances in its stone arena.
