The gleaming white structure was built in 1882 as the private estate of Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler. The memorial is part of the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Enter the museum to learn about the many contributions the German mechanical engineer made to the fledgling development of the internal combustion engine. Treat yourself to a gourmet meal at Bertha’s restaurant inside the museum. The memorial is on the southern side of the park and the museum is less than a 10-minute drive south.
North of Kurpark Bad Cannstatt, stroll to the Neckar River. Walk or jog on the paths under shady trees along the river. Reserve a spot for a performance of cabaret, a play or a puppet show at the Theaterschiff Stuttgart, a floating theater. Head south along the river to the Neckar Park grounds for activities of the Cannstatter Volksfest, a multi-day festival with more than 300 providers of rides, music, food and beer. The autumn festival has been held almost every year since King Wilhelm I of Württemberg established it in 1818 as an agricultural celebration. Drive to Kurpark in 10 minutes from central Stuttgart or ride the train in about 15 minutes. If you prefer, walk here in about 1 hour, with more than half of your travel passing through the peaceful ribbon of green pathways of the three sections of the Schlossgarten.
