Go up Stuttgart’s tallest building, an architectural masterpiece that provides stunning panoramas of the city and the surrounding countryside.

Take in views of the city from high up the Stuttgart TV Tower, Stuttgart’s tallest building. The structure rises up 712 feet (217 meters) and is crowned by a 167-foot (51-meter) transmission mast.

The tower was inaugurated in 1956 and lays claim to being the world’s first television tower made of reinforced concrete. Today, the antennas no longer transmit television programs but radio shows are still transmitted from here.

Take the elevator up to the observation platform, 492 feet (150 meters) above the ground. Marvel at the panoramic views of Stuttgart and the forests and vineyards outside the city. On clear days you can see the Black Forest and the Swabian Alps, a low mountain range. Bring some warm clothing with you as it can be cold on the open-air viewing areas.

Once you’ve admired and photographed the views, have a drink and light snack at the café at a height of 482 feet (147 meters) above ground. There is also a restaurant and gift shop at the base of the tower.

The Stuttgart TV Tower is open until 11 p.m. every day except Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Check the TV Tower's official website for information on the opening times of the restaurant.

Children under 2 years of age get in for free and there are reduced prices for children between the ages of 3 and 15. Admission is free for carers and children on their birthdays. For the full range of prices and discounts including the cost of guided tours, visit the TV tower’s official website.

The Stuttgart TV Tower is situated in the southern Stuttgart neighborhood of Degerloch and is easily reached by public transportation. It is a short walk from the terminus of one of the city’s light rail lines. Car parking is free at the tower.
