On the seafront but very dated

Posted Oct 14, 2015
Pros: Bed was very comfortable.
Cons: The decor is very dated - carpets are worn threadbare in places.
Location: Beach, amusements, crazy golf, promenade, pier (sadly you can't walk to the end).
Booked last minute for a wedding (first choices of the Orwell and the Brook were unavailable). Arrived late (before 10pm) and hungry - asked receptionist about any nearby curry houses. He recommended 3 kebab shops - so we went to McDonalds. Next day we discovered the Blue Naan nearby was open until 11:30pm :-( which was not mentioned although we'd asked specifically. On arrival the room was cold - and there was no way to turn on the heating which was on a timer. Local was perfect. Downstairs bar and pool table was welcome (but we were kicked out at 11pm). As we were staying 2 nights we had a lie-in on the first morning and the maid left the service equipment outside the door when we left our room (before 12pm). This was still there when we returned at 6:30pm - so the room was not refreshed and we had to forego tea the following morning. Breakfast was OK - but poached eggs were inconsistent (one soft one hard). Hot water supply stopped for about 20min as we were getting ready to go out.

A room with a view

Posted Oct 3, 2015 on Hotels
It was fine for a one night stop. The bed was too uncomfortable for more than one night. It is an old hotel and is looking tired but the room was set out nicely and very clean. It had a nice sea view.

Comfortable but pricey

Shabby old hotel on seafront, but clean and comfortable. Surprised to be charged for breakfast as thought it was included, not made clear with booking. Expensive for a single person so would not stay again.

Like staying in a Frat House

Posted Aug 10, 2015
We stayed here because it was too late to book a Bed and Breakfast. But the true Felixstowe experience would be a BnB for sure. I write this because BnBs in the area are better maintained. The location is nice, but the rooms and overall feeling of the place is not pleasant. It's a historical building, but it is not properly kept and it feels more like an old place.

Good location and room available when a shortage of rooms elsewhere due to the summer holiday period.
