The photos on the website give the impression of quaint little cottages and from the outside, which is correct. However, we stayed in Dove Cottage and when we entered the property, it was VERY tired and had a grubby feel about it. The bedroom smelt like stale urine but may have been damp carpet or similar? The fittings were mismatched and the overuse of grab rails, shower chairs etc gave the place a nursing home vibe, rather than a holiday home atmosphere. For a cottage that sleeps four, there is only one towel rail positioned directly over the toilet, and no additional freestanding rails as provided in other placed we've stayed.
We tried to use the ironing board and it was so cheap, unstable and rickety it felt as though it would fall apart. There were three dirty coffee mugs and some other mis-matched crockery and cutlery and the whole place looked like it had been fitted out through Op Shop purchases. The receptionist barely spoke when we checked in (certainly no real info on the local area), and only gave us a dribble or milk in a jug for three people which we used up with an afternoon coffee. We had to go and ask for more for our morning coffee and were treated as if we'd ask for an organ donation. Overall - just yuck and we couldn't wait to check out - so glad we only booked one night!
