Can't beat the location

Posted Aug 7, 2015
We enjoyed our weeklong stay at the Abey. The hotel rooms are large. The beds are good if not a little bouncy. The bathroom is functional. The TV is large and channel selection is good. Nothing is really outstanding but everything is very good. Yes, it’s a bit noisy but so is any inner city hotel. The location is outstanding. Restaurants and pubs of all descriptions and levels abound. It’s an easy walk into Sydney CBD, Chinatown and railways stations. Parking is OK but very tight. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The small warm indoor pool is a bit of a treat. A couple of things: They don’t want to check you in until 2pm. A problem in an international city. The Wi-Fi was down for the whole stay. Come on fellas, this is 2015. But we still highly recommend and will give you another chance next time we are in town.

Clinical

It looked like a converted prison cell, albeit it's a lot larger and cleaner. Very stark, clinical, vanilla room décor. I was there for a business trip, an overnight stay which luckily meant only 5 hours sleep and a shower!!

good value for money

The room we stayed in was kept clean and tidy during our 4day visit at the Abey Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The Hotel is in a good location, close to the city and shops, sightseeing icons, and good restaurants. Public transport was easily accessible. We used the hotel mainly as a base to return to in the evening after a busy day outing. Overall we were happy with our accommodation choice. Would stay again!

good budget hotel, location is ok.

Posted May 3, 2015 on Hotels
maybe a 5 to 10min walk to elizabeth street or oxford street. the building hosts three different hotels which seems to belong to the same group. the abey is probably the budget one of those three, but much better than any double backpacker room we habe experienced. the rooms are a bit older in reality as the look on the pics. the hotel is badly soundproofed like almost every builing in down under. WIFI available, but the NOT for free...which I would expect in a hotel in sydney! Pool is quite small and somehow no one ever seen swimming in there..pool location is kind of crab.

Considering we booked as a couple 2 single beds wasn't what we were looking for and the hotel staff offered no assistance to relocate to a room with a double bed.

Location

Pros: Staff were very attentive and professional.
Cons: What is says on wotif, translates to the same thing at the hotel
Location: Christophers Cakes and Alchemy restaurant were excellent.
We booked a mystery queen bed for two, ended up having twin share. Room was average but the hotel was very noisy from 8am in the morning. A bit confusing as the hotel seems to be in the process of changing its name either from Abey or to Cambridge. I couldn't figure it out.

Stay at Abbey Hotel

I stayed at this hotel with family during our first ever visit to Australia. Hotel is in perfect location close to convenient stores and a few minutes walk from George Street. I would recommend this hotel.

Lovely staff

Great staff who treated myself and the kids well. The building had been given a superficial makeover but for the price and service, worth staying in.
