This hotel is somewhat under construction so the living room is not set up well but the staff is excellent, the breakfast options were good (with real cappuchino - not from a machine!) and there is an elevator so we didn't have to lug suitcases up a stairway. The bed was comfortable and housekeeping came in every day. Front desk and breakfast staff were very helpful with suggestions for restaurants, markets and a barbershop!

When I arrived the room I’ve booked wasn’t available at all. The hotel has two buildings and I was placed in the building #2. The room is definitely not what I paid for but the view is magnificent. Also, owner was very understanding and was trying to rectify the situation immediately, as soon as she learn about the problem. A lot needs to be improved but owner of the place is very nice and helpful.

Hard to spot hotel in the dark
Nice rooms in two separate buildings; reception is in newer one. Very comfortable rooms and bed. Hot water took ages to come through pipes. Breakfast ok but just a choice of two plates; nice and fresh! Bar just 6-9pm but that may be because we were very off season.

Excellent location. Not all rooms are sea facing. Nice decor and very good breakfast. We did not try the restaurant but believe it is of good quality. Rooms comfortable and clean.

Very basic. Our room had no view, which defeated the purpose of selecting a hotel on the water. The bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly.

Good little boutique hotel on a great island!
Good bits first: - service when we arrived was excellent, really friendly and informative. - location was great, just out of the way of the main areas to not be noisy, but close enough to all places good to go to - room was fairly basic, but clean and functional - hotel itself is very well done out - great breakfast and bar (when open) was good Not so great stuff: - small balcony in our room overlooked someone’s back yard (literally) - no food or bar service whatsoever on Sunday - roof terrace, while beautiful, wasn’t always available - bathroom was fine, but could have been better shower and needed a bit of an update - safe in room didn’t work Overall, a really nice stay - not so great stuff here didn’t have massive impact on our stay, but is more intended to offer suggestions for improvement! Also, and this isn’t the hotel’s fault, but more of a tip for others, parking can be tricky at best. Stop outside hotel and ask for help rather than go to the public car park just past the archway.

Great boutique hotel
We booked for 2 nights originally and loved both Siracusa and the hotel so much we stayed an extra night. The beds really comfortable and all the hotel very clean. Very much a boutique hotel. I would definitely recommend and stay again.

Stunning Syracuse
We were very well looked after by a friendly staff at Hotel Gutkowski. Orytigia is beautiful and I’d recommend this hotel to anyone.

Good location in old town Ortigia, easy to find parking nearby (in Nov) and friendly staff. Nice sea views but the room was a bit noisy. Could do with double glazing for rooms on the road side.

Comfy stay.
A really great location. We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Gutkowski. The hotel kept in good communication with us and was there to meet us when we arrived late the first evening. Breakfast was good, although it was a little too busy later on. Our bed was very comfy and we were shown access to a terrace which was nice.

Great central hotel for exploring Siracusa
This was our second stay at Hotel Gutkowski, and we hope it won't be our last. We came originally with our two teenage children and stayed five days, seven years ago, and had a wonderful holiday. This time, we came just as a couple for a one week stay. The welcome, kind & extremely informative, was every bit as we had remembered. The hotel is situated in the historic centre of Siracusa, Ortigia, and there is so much to see & do by foot. The hotel is simply furnished in eclectic style. The rooms have both air conditioning & ceiling fans, absolutely essential, even in September. The restaurant has greatly expanded since our original stay, and we enjoyed two superb meals there, in addition to a varied buffet breakfast every morning. On the second floor there is a large terrace overlookig the sea, where guests are welcome to enjoy drinks, etc. A couple of times we bought food from the incredible local market to have a picnic lunch on the terrace, and enjoy the view. Very highly recommended.

Superb location and warm hospitality
The somewhat prosaic appearance and furnishings of the bedrooms were more than compensated by the exceedingly friendly greeting afforded by Christine, manager of the hotel. The free parking space a few meters from the front door provided an additional enhancement. Breakfast, marked by a copious supply of Sicily's divine grapefruits and oranges started our days on a high note.

Convenient Hotel
Close to entrance to Ortigia so having a car was okay. Other hotels are harder to get to. Parking is public, so you have to either pay or work a little. Everything in Ortigia is within walking distance. We had the room on the large terrace looking at the see. The room is small but the view is great.

Great hotel!
This is a great boutique hotel. We had one of the rooms with the sea view which was amazing. Very pretty rooms with a clean but quirky look. Quick walk to anywhere in Ortigia. Highly recommend!

Ortagia in winter.
Hotel staff great, helpful, good English. Hotel handy for all Ortagia's facilities. Good continental breakfast and small bistro menu in the evenings. Visited 11-18th November so very quiet. Ortagia still lively, though some restuarants closed for winter.

Fabulous boutique hotel in a great location
We loved this hotel - great location and really friendly staff. Fabulous decor and sea views! Would definitely recommend this hotel. Great little touches like free bike hire and free granita on the beautiful roof terrace between 5-7 really made this hotel extra special.

Convenient hotel to major sites
A nice stay at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the accommodation comfortable. The hotel was on the island of Ortiga so was ideally placed for enjoying the old sites.

Great ocean view!
The staff are very kind. Christine at the reception desk especially was helpful, friendly, efficient--helped with street parking and figuring out why we couldn't print a boarding pass. Our room (26)--in the newer building with the reception desk-- had a balcony and a great view of the ocean, and was next to the terrace. Some street noise, but not overwhelming in mid-Oct. The Gut restaurant next door was excellent.

Located in the Old Town. Parking spaces are limited. Stayed for 3 nights and was disappointed to get a room (basic, but clean) with no balcony, facing the back. Roof terrace - great place to chill and sip free granitas late afternoon. Breakfast is simple cold buffet. Friendly staff.

Looked at the outside and thought it would be bad but was pleasantly surprised when I got to my room. It's in an old building (that's what you want in Siracusa) but I felt comfortable and the price was right.

The ONLY good thing was the location
The room was VERY small and no air conditioning. The location was great, BUT, when checking in at 8:00pm I told the desk clerk where I was parked, (on the street), he said NO PROBLEM. When we checked out our car was gone and had been towed. 2 hours and $120 later to get the car. Find another hotel nearby and you will be much happier.

We had a short, but most enjoyable stay in Syracuse, including attending a most magnificent production at the ancient Greek theatre. We were able to walk everywhere from the hotel and found a charming restaurant very close by. The staff were very helpful. Rosemary & Mike

The Hotel Gutkowski in Ortygia - delightful
When we first arrived at the Hotel Gut I was a bit disappointed that we weren't staying in the blue building shown on the website (we were in another building a few doors down) and our very small room with a sea view actually had more of a view of a busy, noisy road and a graffitied sea wall. Having said that, I quickly realised that where we were staying, with it's lovely breakfast room, lounge area and terrace, was perfect for our needs and wants. It's a simple yet delightful and stylishly quirky hotel in a great location on Ortygia and I would definitely stay there again. I would just upgrade to a room with all the pluses.
