Great hotel overlooking the Ionian Sea
Posted Apr 19, 2014
This hotel seems to be a recently converted residence in a section of mainland Siracuse off the street running along behind the sea-wall. The staff were helpful, pleasant, competent, and tolerant do poor Italian. Some staff spoke some English. The hotel is modern, with well designed interiors and very clean. The breakfasts were lovely and more ample than most in Southern Italy with coffee or tea, pastry, fruit, yogurt, and bruschetta with a variety of toppings including meat, cheese, and egg. The rooms are large with high ceilings. The rooms by the street open out with shutters to a view of the red moon over the Ionian Sea. The terraza shown in the website has a stunning view of the sea. Bring a sweater in spring or fall. So what's not to like? Well, it is about 2 kilometers from the main things that tourists come to see in Siracusa: the Parco Archeologico and Museum and the churches, shops, and Medieval streets of Ortygia. If you are on foot you will need to be quite fit to get to these sites. There are few restaurants near by, but one of the best in town, "Red Moon" is about an 800 meter walk from the front door.
