One of my favorite coffee shops in Washington, Metronome offers a cool vibe, weekly concerts and open mic nights, local artwork, a fireplace in the winter, garage door and outdoor seating in the summer, pancakes and cereal (!!!), beer, wine, local artisanal baked goods and pastries, great music, friendly staff, free wifi, and of course INCREDIBLE coffee and a team who knows how to make a quality custom drink. Try the fun seasonal flavored lattes and mochas, and make sure to try something called a Nostalgia abounds at this local favorite shake shack. Great burgers, fries, and (of course) shakes right near the famous Stadium High School. Try the Tiger Shake, named for Stadium's mascot and made with salted caramel ice cream and Almond Roca, also a product of the Tacoma area. Tacoma's trendiest craft cocktail bar, with delicious drinks designed and served up by one of the world's best-rated bartenders. The intimate ambience, wide selection of craft drinks (with fun names like This place just simply rocks socks. Matador has the best margaritas in town with fun flavors like jalapeno-cucumber, watermelon, and tamarind. Plus, their huge portions of nachos are only $5 during happy hour! “Everybody remembers their first car, family driving vacations, a sports car they fell in love with as a teenager,” says Lemay's American Car Museum CEO David Madeira. “Personal experiences with cars are at the heart of the American experience, and we’re going to showcase more than a century of automotive lifestyle and history as well as the future of transportation.” ... June 2nd is the opening and I'll see all y'all there!!! It'll be the largest collection of vintage and classic cars in the world. Lemay has an awesome story...literally from trash to riches. He would buy vintage and classic cars while on his garbage truck route...eventually leading to this ACM AWESOMENESS!!! Didn't go inside, but I heard that it isn't to be missed when in Tacoma. Shame I had such little time when I was there. More auto eye-candy from Lemay Museum. Tacoma's been stepping it up a notch lately. ;) Awesome bridge in Tacoma More of Tacoma's beautiful Union Station. Slots cars! We raced these two at the awesome kids track. Get the blue one if you can... Its the fastest, but be careful or you'll wipeout on the hairpins. Tacoma is chuck full of these classy old churches. This one was easily my favorite. #church #architecture #tacoma The Garages. Dope graff artists and muralists gather here just about every Sunday to piece up this parking garage allowed by the City of Tacoma. Lots and lots of antique stores by this garage. You get to meet the muralists and every now and again chat with them about their art. It's on 8th and Broadway in T-Town. One of the best craft cocktail bars I've been to. One of at least a dozen Ferraris on display at the newly opened and awesome Lemay Auto Museum. If you walk down Owen Beach you'll come to some hand holds in the cliff. if you're brave enough to climb them (be careful their sketchy) you'll come to this place. Such a great place to chill. After walking around Wright Park and Arboretum, come to this free botanical garden in a greenhouse, good on a cloudy day. #Green The best hot dogs and micro-brews in town!!! More of the architectural beauty that resides in Tacoma. The largest car collection on the west coast! Penny Tree in Point Defiance Park. Part of the wall of the pedestrian overpass (above the road) It's accomplishment enough for an old coffee pot-shaped building to still be standing, let alone serving cups of Joe. Bob's Java Jive is one such survivor, weathering gyrations that might crack a lesser coffee pot-shaped building.
Built in 1927 as the Coffee Pot Restaurant by a Tacoma veterinarian, Otis G. Button, it was designed by local artist/promoter Bert Smyser, owner of a commercial display business. The concrete coffee pot stood 25 ft. high, and was 30 ft. in diameter.
The handle.
The big pot operated as a food drive-thru at one point, and a speakeasy. As the city of Tacoma expanded, and waves of development swept outward, the Coffee Pot thrived while other eclectic buildings succumbed.
In 1955, Bob and Lylabell Radonich bought the place. Lylabell concocted the name, “Everybody remembers their first car, family driving vacations, a sports car they fell in love with as a teenager,” says ACM CEO David Madeira. “Personal experiences with cars are at the heart of the American experience, and we’re going to showcase more than a century of automotive lifestyle and history as well as the future of transportation.”
Harold and Nancy LeMay amassed the largest privately owned collection of automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, other vehicles and related memorabilia in the world.
At its peak, the LeMay Collection numbered in excess of 3,000 vehicles and thousands of artifacts and was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest privately owned collection in the world; impressive if accomplished by King, but jaw dropping, awesome when accomplished by a local businessman from Tacoma, Washington. Where gas pumps go to die? Beautiful Red fall colors in Wright Park. Watch live glass blowing demos This place is way more cool than I expected. First of all, the structure is an architectural marvel; such a great space that spans 165,000 sq feet. Packed with vintage autos (like my favorite: 1963 Corvette), interactive simulators, and tons of automotive history. Whether you're there with the kids, or for a corp event, this place is def worth a visit and we are lucky to have it in the PNW. All this pond is missing are water lilies to be like the Monet painting. Also enjoy a walk, picnic, bocce ball, playground, water feature, sculptures, arboretum, and greenhouse botanical garden. #Green This structure was originally built to be a hotel and now is a functioning high school. #StunningStructures Clear winter day from Ruston Way on Tacoma’s Waterfront. Didn't get to go inside, although I heard it's incredible! The Union Station is still plenty ripe for pictures just walking around the building. Great old signs tucked away on the north end of Freighthouse Square. Perfect spot for photos while waiting for train at Tacoma Dome Station. Very cool sculpture! A quiet morning in Tacoma. Lovely. Exterior sculpture at night If you ever find yourself in Tacoma be sure to check out all of the free Chihuly glass there is to see! There is an actual museum that you can pay to get into, but I don't know that you need to. You can go into the old train station and walk the Bridge of Glass (both full of great pieces) all for free and be completely happy. The lower side of downtown Tacoma, where all the functions that support the economy take place. Fall colors in Tacoma #lifeatexpedia Sunset from in front of my house in Tacoma. Grab your camera and go hunting. If you love anything on wheels, whether classics or modern, be sure to stop by here. They have a collection of over 300 vehicles of all kinds. The museum has four levels and is design like a parking garage. #stunningstructures Amazing!! Great Gluten Free Menu!! The burger was very good!! Nothing like the holidays. Every now and then you get the town all to yourself :) Changing exhibitions, live glassblowing. A lovely day trip from Seattle. Silly name, with SERIOUS food! It's a relaxed atmosphere with a chef who appeared on Master Chef. The have a fantastic lunch and dinner menu however they only serve brunch on Fridays - Sundays and I can not say enough about my favorite brunch item on the menu. The Elk Hash (shown here) It alone is worth the trip to Tacoma! Order it with a fresh homemade biscuit. Waterfront park downtown with 1903 totem pole and on a clear day, good views of Mt. Rainier, Commencement Bay and Port of Tacoma. #Green Awesome newish kids' museum in the heart of downtown Tacoma. Clean, diverse, with changing themes (currently Eric Carle to correspond with the Carle exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum). Big water table, awesome airplane with a rope bridge, art room ready for your creative kid, fun treehouse with stuffies galore and neat winged animal capes, and even a small cafe! Oh yes, the sun eventually comes out in the PNW. Here is a a 11:30 testimonial. Giant rubber duckie for boat days It turns out you don't have to go all the way to Portland for a bacon maple bar!
Just look at those honking slabs of pork and sugar...half of one is in my belly right now; they are amazing but filling.
