Stunning location, beautiful grounds, excellent breakfast (I'm not normally a breakfast person - but it looked too good to resist). What's not to like. Will definitely return again and again

A beautiful building, pity about everything else.

The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and the grounds are very pleasant. Our room was comfortable. The room was not cleaned very well, there was a couple of dead spiders on webs in the bathroom, dried cornflake on the bedroom carpet and two of the windows were caked in bird poo (there were nests directly above the window). We arrived on a very hot day and we're unable to open the windows due to this. The staff was generally slow to deal with any request. I had called reception at 6:30 am for a cup of milk for my toddler it arrived at 7:40 (after two phone calls to chase it up). Access is very bad, I had two babies in a pushchair and had to look around for members of staff to help me carry it up a flight of stairs.

Atmospheric castle hotel and excellent restaurant

Posted Aug 11, 2013
Pros: Atmosphere, restaurant, location
Location: Exploring York
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We came here as a family with two children, and were amply accommodated in the generous sized master suites. The restaurant is really good, and I recommend opting for the dinner package.

A Disappointment

Posted Jul 16, 2013
Pros: The buildings, the gardens and the views
Cons: The service
Location: Excellent
Hazlewood castle is a superb Wedding venue. The weekend we were there they had three Weddings. For the wedding guests the rooms are adequate. The place is exquisitely beautiful. The gardens are suberb and the views are stunning. But the service for hotel guests was abysmal. The management was hopeless. We were celebrating 52 years of marriage and thought we would get a first class hotel but we were very diasappointed and only stayed one night. The room had no air conditioning and we almost cooked. It was very uncomfortable. The second night we stayed at Holiday Inn in Leeds. It had a swimming pool, exercise room, airconditioning and extremely modern and clean rooms with excellent service for almost 1/3 of the price. I do not think you should send hotel guests to Haslewood castle. They do not have the facilities and the bathrooms probably date back to the fifties.
