Nice location and nice service.

Posted Apr 1, 2015
Pros: Location and breakfast.
Cons: It looks a bit old.
Location: Katayama is a nice place in the mountains. The city is old and keeps the flavour of the old japan. You can find many small ski resorts around.
It is actually in a nice location. The service is nice but the hotel is a bit old and needs some renovation although it is clean. The onset is also nice. I liked the Japanese breakfast, it was large and really nice quality.

Very disappointed

Posted Oct 9, 2013
Straight up this 'hotel' is closer to a hostel. There are shared bathrooms, with communal showers. There is no hanging space in the rooms, other than three coat-hangers on hooks on the wall. The beds are very uncomfortable, the pillows are like bags of cement. The fridge in the room also didn't work. The hotel is quite noisy, from both outside traffic first thing in the morning, and from the other guests. For the price paid very disappointed. That said, the location is very convenient and the staff are very friendly. The breakfast is traditional, but would not be to everyone's taste.

Basic hotel with no private bathroom

Posted Aug 16, 2013
Pros: Location
Cons: No bathroom
Location: Excellent location and the old district is just step away.
Excellent location and close to old district. Very basic hotel for the price and room with residue of smoke. Formal breakfast with Takayama famous dish if you like to eat beef every morning. No private bathroom.

Lovely service, close to centre

Nice family run hotel that offers a traditional Japanese breakfast (with beef, so advise reception if you have specific dietary requirements). Rooms are homely and randomly decorated (not a bad thing), with AC and come with a hot water jug and kettle. Lavatories are shared and sinks and hairdryers are in a communal area. Shower is shared and there’s no private area. Hotel is clean and staff are attentive. A nice touch was that all visitors are invited to leave messages about their home towns/country (which are filed for anyone to read). The hotel itself is up a small incline so those slightly older or with lots of luggage may find it a drag (staff will help however!). We were there for night only, so it was ideal for a quick stopover. Its roughly a 15-20 minute walk (with luggage) from the JR train station across town. The town itself is walkable, and there are many restaurants to choose from. Its less than a 5 minute walk into the centre.

Excellent choice if you don't mind shared bathrooms and Japanese food
