A LOCAL ONLY PLACE-LOW QUALITY

Pros: Nothing.
Location: The beaches were dirty and there is not much to do here. We stayed as a stopover because it was close to the airport.
Past reviews were not accurate. Expedia has never let me down but this was a complete fail in their reviews and star rating. The food and beverages selection were low quality and unhealthy. The wine was so bad i could not drink it. AND i did try! more than once. The pool bar was constantly full and overcrowded. Drinks served in flimsy, plastic cups. Cheapest beer and liquor only. The room smelled like mold. The pool and surrounding area were dirty. The activites were completely over promoted. The kids club was a little room outside that did not hold my kids attention. They had my daughter wait in line forever, had me fill out the forms and then denied her to jump on their trampoline. Staff English was very bad and they were not friendly to us. This seems like a very popular and well visited place for local families and groups. Not tourists. As a single mom with 3 kids, i was looking forward to a break and having the kids be occupied. They were bored. And they told me my service dog needed to stay in the room. I didn't bother to argue.

service is not what you expect

The good: 1- nice place far away from almost anything but local airport 2- food is good buffet and very good in the japanesse restaurant 3- night shows ar ok 4- pools are very clean 5- assistance for third party services is very good Should improve: 1- check in is extremely slow and you have to dig on the services 2- almost no one smiles in this place, they do what they have to do. 3- you have to pay for wifi but don't expect coverage or speed. Average soeedtest was 0.5 Mb 4- Licour included is not good branded (I.e Disco Rum) 5- meat on the steak house is terrible don' even try it. 6- Japannesse restaurant only cold food 7- pool's bar smells bad

Good Hotel Dangerous Beach

The hotel in general is good, lots of food bad quality. The facilites in general ara not bad, nice parking and the staff in general is very nice. A large pool and we enjoy the tenis court. It is all inclusive but good liquor or beer got to be paid. We have a terrible experience when we took a kayak from the ocean sports facilities, my son and I took one Kayac land we almost die, the whole thing went wrong, (I do Triatlón so I am use to open waters) we never got any instruction about the this specific Kayac, no lifeguards in the hotel, no assistance of all. We lost the Kayac, we swim to the shore for more than haft an hour. Terrible experience, we have good luck to tell this history. Just don't trust this beach, this hotel, this staff and don't move from your room if you want a safe vacation.

Great grounds and staff, but missing key elements

Cons: The FOOD, the FOOD, the FOOD.
Location: This hotel is kind of in the middle of nowhere. It is close to Montezuma & Curu national park, but that is about it.
This hotel is on beautiful property. The hotel itself is gorgeous. The staff is excellent and very friendly. If you don't speak Spanish, it may be difficult at times to communicate with some staff though. The room was just okay. They use the same tile in the hallways and throughout the hotel as they do within the rooms. This creates a feeling that your room is just another part of the hallway - not great. The activities provided by the hotel are great, plenty to do and see. The food at the hotel, including all three restaurants was not good. We tried everything they offered and the only thing that was really good was the fried snapper. Everything else was very sub-par. When we booked this hotel it was supposed to be adults-only. Apparently that changed in between booking and our arrival. Not only were there children at the hotel, but on the weekend the hotel was completely packed with locals who were very loud into all hours of the night. It just wasn't the atmosphere we were hoping for. Made us feel like we were still in Miami and an over-packed hotel with tons of loud obnoxious people. We did a number of excursions which were all great though. The horseback riding was great, we ended up doing it twice - a 1 hour and 2 hour tour. The tour of Curu park was fantastic. The tour of the Montezuma waterfalls was a little disappointing though. It's a really tough hike and you can't get a great view of the falls unless you are very brave and fit. Altogether this hotel is just okay.

Trip of a life time, loving C.R.

Our original plan was to stay in Jaco for the duration of time in C.R. but we had a bad experience at the first resort, we checked out early and traveled the coast. Went to Manuel Antonio for a couple of night and then Tambor to finish our stay. What a great decision that was!! We had an amazing experience touring the coast and ending up at Barcelo Tambor!

the best vacation ever

Pros: the environment,friendly staff like the bartenders, cookers, wetters,all the shows personal, Garrard's, the mangers, it is a family environment.
Cons: not thing
Location: well there are lots of torus, that the hotel offer, we went to tambor beach, the church,in curu the Island of the turtles the water full in Montezuma,
the best experience ever,, the first day a very friendly welcome, the front desk, very friendly very helper well explained, the speck any language.

A decent stay, but miles away.

Location: The location is pretty remote. There are some ATV tours, snorkeling tours and hiking if you have a car to drive 20-40 minutes away from the resort.
The resort is very close to the beach in Playa Tambor. The pool area was very well maintained and relaxing. Unfortunately, there were many negatives. Barcelo Tambor is about 4 hours from the closest airport and the drive is mostly gravel roads with large pot holes.The hotel staff at the front desk was friendly, but those in the dining hall seemed bothered by any request. The food at all restaurants (especially the included buffet) was average at best. Bars were consistently out of various alcohols to make their signature cocktails which left little options for included drinks. Entertainment in the evenings is 100% Spanish, so if you only speak English, you'll have a hard time enjoying most of it. Also, our AC broke on the second day and it was never repaired. In summary, I would not recommend the hotel.

Family Vacation

Pros: The food, the beach, the pool, the local tours, everything.
Cons: Maybe just one thing, there should be an elevator for the second floor....especially for elderly.
Location: The location is very convenient. There is a Ferry transportation just 20min away from the hotel.
This hotel is just perfect for your beach vacations. The Food is good quality, it has a lot of variety and there is A LOT of food during the whole day. The pool facilities are good enough, with a kid area separated from the main pool. all nights there is a show for kids, adults and a ice breaking activity that involves people from the audience.....IT IS A LOT OF FUN. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I will return to this hotel the next time I can.

Not like on the pictures

The hotel pictures are so enticing. However, the hotel is dated. Three of the pools including the wet bar were under renovation the entire time we were there and I was never made aware of that. The reservations process for the nice dinner restaurants is like somethingn from 1850. They really need to make some upgrades to make it look like the pictures again.

In regards your made up observations I must add that our facilities have been renewed in the year 2012, likewise the maintenance made to every room included also the pool in order to improve the given services to all customers. During the maintenance of the pool it was made through stages, having always available the customers two of the three sections, evenly the day in which the wet bar was closed it was given the bar service at the loungers. The last and most recent renovation it was applied for complete at the restaurant structure El Rancho. The reservations that are made a la carté it must follow a procedure in which the guests should do it at the counter of public relations. We will focus on improving those services.
