The Henry Plant Museum idea started as a late 19th century and evolved during the early 1900's as a destination known as the Tampa Hotel. But it was it more then a destination. You could go hunting, fishing, play tennis, golf , boating as well elegant dining on meals prepared by culinary chefs from New York City.
Today the museum is a back drop for the campus of University of Tampa. RiverWalk In the pavilion of birds, a friendly employee of the company offered us honest advice: do not spend your money on the nectar to feed the birds; it's so hot out that they aren't very interested in eating right now, but come back in a little while once they're cooled down from their baths. We walked into the pavilion, interested in seeing the birds while opting not to try and feed them, and found the birds flying around like wild, bathing in the pools of water gathering from the sprinklers, and drying themselves on bushes. This little guy decided to show off to me, just before he decided to fly up and sit on my boyfriend's head. One of two area locations, in an upscale modern diner space, serves all three meals plus all day breakfast. A truly unique experience at this steakhouse since 1956 in a retro upscale ambience with red walls and flocked wallpaper. Serves dry aged beef, caviar, foie gras, seafood, chicken, duck, good sides, cheeses, and heavenly sweets in their dessert room with private booths with selection of your own music. Take a tour of their kitchen, cheese cave and large wine cellar. Reservations a must. This is original location of an excellent regional chain that offers all types of BBQ: ribs, brisket, chicken, pulled pork, turkey, and sausage. Also has great sides and variety of sauces.
