Great Hotel providing excellent service

Posted Apr 12, 2017
Pros: The overall feel of the public areas. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful
Cons: Unfortunately the rooms receive noise from the main road in front of hotel.
Location: Good location to visit the sights
Stayed for two nights to visit some of sights in Cameron Highlands. The hotel was most welcoming and the staff were excellent. We had an amusing and instructive induction in 'the Steam Boat' from Gerrard and Shiva in the restaurant - it was delicious !

Lovely time stood still hotel with updated appount

Posted Apr 9, 2017 on Hotels
Lovely old hotel that has been maintained beautifully. Service fantastic from gerard, Kim and shiva. After the first meeting they always greeted you by your first name Mr Robert, mrs linda and miss emily? How do they do it When we were leaving they made a special effort to see us off. The dinner in the upstairs dining room " hotpot" was excellent but dinner in main dining room was good. Breakfasts were disappointing for a 5 star hotel compared with all the other hotels we had experienced all over Asia. The Cooked items were very nice but the cold buffet left a lot to be seized, very limited choice. All in all a special place to stay altho thecameron highlands has become extremely touristy. I was expecting a remote village in the hills! Traffic going up and down the mountain from the main Penang - Kuala Lumpur highway was long and windy and a lot of traffic.

Hotel on busy road, bit overhyped

Posted Mar 16, 2017
Hotel has some old-fashioned charm but is limited. All rooms face onto the noisy main road; there is no other view, no garden. It boasts about local trails but provides no adequate map or information for walkers - only a badly photocopied single sheet print- out from a website (pathetic really, given that being outdoors is a/ the main point of going to the hill country.) No hire bikes available. Hotel staff are not able to provide practical information for independent travellers such as how/ where to book a train from Ipoh. Staff are young and inexperienced but smile a lot. They want to please but have not been trained in basics like how to make a decent pot of tea or light a fire. The reading room is too gloomy to read in; full of mosquitoes and a few terrible old books. No information pack in rooms. No room service. No bar snack menu so you have to have a formal dinner (nice but pricey). Not enough mosquito control- the bleeders are everywhere. Finally my personal test for a top end hotel is: do they clean UNDER the plug in the bathroom basin? In this case no. The sinks drain very slowly and the shower drain smells. This place has its charms and may be the best of the bunch in the golf course area at the moment (a new luxury hotel is being built nearby) but it is not 5 star imo.

Good Overnight Stay

The property is a bit dated but overall clean and tidy. It's still considered one of the best in the area. Staff in the restaurant were very helpful and service was good.
