The staff were helpful and friendly. When my room needed attention the staff were quick to take care of things. The property is starting to undergo some renovations which are needed. Was a reasonably priced room for the time of year (holidays) and ski season in Taos area.

Christmas in Taos, New Mexico
THis is not a 3.1 out 5 star rating. I booked this place due to the rating. Indian Hills Taos is a 0-1 Star Rating...when I ask about their Continental Breakfast having fruit or yogurt, I received a response, *No we do not have any of those here*. Disturbing. Cracks are everywhere inside outside and on the pavements of building. Location of property sits on is used for *addicts using needles* for we found syringe caps everywhere, and the lighting outdoors is scary. I was afraid to leave my car anywhere because the *shops* on this hotel premises were vacant with windows broken housing anything to keep out from the cold...rooms were funky smell. If you are going to charge people to not use rooms for smoking (I do not smoke), please make sure each room has been remodeled and repainted to make it smell and appear clean!! Really, only 1 bath towel per person. I have long hair!! One wash cloth was hanging. Rooms are not dusted, not vacuumed thoroughly around corners, and I must smell bleach in baths to know they are clean. Toilet bowl still had black yuck around the inside rim, very noticeable. No more to this place. Too expensive for what is not being advertised.

For a place to stay for the night it was ok. Could have been a little cleaner and definitely needs some overall TLC but other than that is works for a place to stay in the heart of downtown

Good location - poor maintenance
Lodging in Taos is expensive and this motel has rooms under $100 and it's in a great location. But the rooms and common areas are run down and dirty. the pool is filled with dark dirty water. Shopping carts and busted chairs litter the walkways. I'm astonished that a valuable piece of real estate in a great town like Taos has been allowed to go to ruin like this place.

I had a very nice stay. The room was clean, simple and very comfortable. I enjoyed the back yard, the picnic area, and the chairs outside the room. The area was great, across the street from a supermarket, several restaurants, two blocks from The Plaza. I would recommend to anyone looking for an economical hotel, close to the center of town. I will return.

Away from the hustle of uptown.
All rooms are in the back of the hotel. Keep the window closed and the a.c. on and it is very quiet. The rooms overlook a large courtyard where your children or dogs can play.

Weeds and broken concrete at entrance. Pool was closed, had dark green dirty water with trash in it. Room needed to be repainted. Bugs in room. Trim and doors finish were cracked and worn. Price was way to high for such accommodations. Really, really totally disappointed. Greg Gutierrez.

Worst stay ever
Can't believe Expedia would list this place. The description is not accurate. It is under renovation one room at a time, most of it is uninhabitable. The pool was brown. The grounds unkempt . The room was just painted and the fumes gave me a headache. The room was not clean and housekeeping did not vacuum and they did not make the bed. No light in the bathroom. No room phone or clock. Breakfast was a joke. Staff was rude. No working ice machine. It is sad because this could be a great place. I would urge you not to stay here.

My son and I had a blast in Taos. This place was walking distance from the Plaza. It wasn't fancy, but it was just what we wanted. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the room was clean, the air conditioner cranked, the breakfast was a little better than we expected and all in all it was a good experience. We hope to visit again soon.

Delapidated
If you plan to stay here there are a few extras you will need to pack. Earplugs so you can sleep when the people next door are talking. Walls are paper thin. Hairdryer if you plan to wash your hair. They don't supply one. House shoes if you plan to walk around. There were holes in the carpet. The matresses were so old they were made with blue and white striped pillow ticking. Their idea of updating the mattress was throwing an uncovered 1" thick memory foam topper on it. The light in the bathroom is so loud that if you get up in the middle of the night you are inclined to toilet in the dark to keep from waking your others. There is a beautiful huge old tree on the property.

Local gem
This was my second stay at this hotel. The first stay I booked in person at 1 am after an unpleasant experience at a private even and campsite in the woods east of Taos. The fact that they were accommodating and fairly priced at such an off hour was pleasant. The architecture is very indicative of the town you are in, a massive willow tree that must be older than the town itself guards the courtyard. A true comfort to the soul. Because of the recession they have opted to rent rooms for long term tenants. I personally love this, it shows their commitment to the community . The block this hotel is on is also home to a local second hand store, diner, and pizza joain't. If I can contribute to their local life and help low income tenants who would otherwise not have a cozy home at night, even if only in my mind I will take that opportunity.

Good Location but Overpriced.
The motel was clean and in walking distance of the Plaza. However, the room for the free breakfast was unappealing and the guest towels would be used as rags at my house. Definitely overpriced.

This is a low budget hotel, and as such some things were not the best, but over all they worked hard at making our stay good. The room we were provided smell heavily of smoke and upon request they provided us with another room with out hesitation. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay here in the future, but also would explore other options in the same price range.

Worst, creepy place I have ever booked.
There was absolutely nothing good about this place. I was shocked that for $130 a place could be so bad. In fact it was so bad that we did not even stay and are disputing the charges. When we arrived at 5:00 pm, the room was not ready and the clerk disappeared for 15 min. I guess to get someone to clean the room. The lobby was dark, broken window in the front, and exterior was very unkept. Parking area on the side was very creepy and probably not a safe place for your car at night. Very smelly as well. After 20- 25 min we were given keys and directions to room. The maid was still putting the room together when we got there. Room was disgusting... holes in the walls, dirty carpet, weird smell. This place has not been taken care of for years and it looks like it. Locals are aware of it and advise against staying there. Have had issues with drug sales there. I wish we would have investigated before we booked because there are so many complaints about this motel. It was a very creepy place. I am very disappointed that Expedia would do nothing to get our money back. No one should have to stay in a place like that! DO NOT STAY HERE!

Worst hotel do not go ever!!
This is hands down the worst hotel I've ever been in. It is dirty with cigarette burrs and trash everywhere, the room reeks of old smoke, no lamp worked, the sink stank, half of the paint from the ceiling was in the floor (and of course no one cared to clean it even after several requests), remote didn't work etc. The hotel is filled with permanent guests who seem ta have stepped straight out of "breaking bad", as was the staff. Half of them drunk. We were greeted by a smashed bottle of vodka in the lobby but I can say from my heart that alcohol is not the main problem in this place. I honestly think the health department and police should close this dump down. And Expedia should not offer it for booking that is irresponsible. I truly thought I would suffocate in this reek. And they charge 130 bucks for this!!!

Raze this Motel
While the staff were nice people, the motel was old, out of date, smelled and the carpet was atrocious. Curtains on window were hanging off the rod and would not completely close due to age. The room was marked non-smoking but smelled of smoke--and other things. The television was an old small one and had no remote. For the price we paid, it was awful. For a few more bucks, we could have stayed in a nicer, cleaner place. This motel needs to be razed.

Not what I expected.
When we checked in, the lobby was full of young adult men that seemed to have no place to go or nothing to do. We were checked in and directed to our room. The parking lot had a lot of weeds and trash in it. To get to our room, we had to pass what appeared to be a permanent guest's room that had shopping carts full of "stuff" outside along with food, books and "junk". When we went for the continental breakfast at 7:20 there was 1 container of yogart and one bagel. That was all that was put out. Breakfast was to go from 7 to 9.

Within walking distance of the Plaza
The location is all I can recommend, it's across the street from a grocery store and a 5 minute walk to the Plaza and many restaurants. The staff were friendly when we checked in as well. The window of our room was broken and had been "mended" with packing tape. The bottom of the bathroom counter had detached and was sliding away from the top. The shower curtain was moldy and the towels stained/dirty. There were shopping carts full of trash left in the walkways.

Cozy, Stylish Hotel in Taos
The room and lobby had a very quaint feel to them, it was quite nice. Unlike staying at a name-brand hotel, you really got the feel that you were in New Mexico here, something many hotels can't just capture. It is close to Taos square and several great restaurants. Also a great basecamp if you plan on doing the Enchanted Circle drive or anything in the Carson National Forest or Wheeler's Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico. Taos is a wonderful place and Indian Hills Inn is a great place to stay when you are in town.

This used to be a fairly nice hotel. The grounds are large and the rooms are really old, with little done to update them. The cable connection for the room was duct taped to the floor and ran across the room! Never saw that before. It's just old and ready for a tear down or serious remodel. But cheap!

Decent stay, overall
Compared to my nightmarish stay at Whitten Inn, this felt like heaven. Top bedsheets had holes from wear, but you could tell the sheets were CLEAN. The mattresses and pillows were super comfy, and you could tell the towels were new (and clean). I guess the only fault would have been with the bathtub, where lots of rust was happening at the drain, but I showered so this didn't affect me. I saw three creepy crawlies at night, but as far as I can tell, they didn't get into my things... Factually, none were bigger than my pinky nail, but I hate bugs so yeah. And factually, I ended up with a crazy bugbite during my overnight stay at Whitten Inn, but no bugbites during my two-night stay here. The innkeeps were super warm and friendly, so that was nice. For some reason, two queens were cheaper to book than a single bed, so they upgraded me for free when they realized I was really only there by myself. They also told me to let them know if I wanted/needed to change rooms and they'd be cool with that.
Response from John on Sep 23, 2015
Thanks so much for your comments and business. Glad we met your expectations. The single bed rooms are newer than the two queen bed rooms, hence, a higher price. Hope you'll come back again and send us your referrals! Thanks!!!

Where not to stay in Taos
Despite the critical comments this hotel has received we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt since its location is very good. Sadly in most respects the critical comments were justified. The hotel is very well sited within easy reach of the Plaza. The outlook of the rooms is very good (on to open green space) and the hotel has great potential. It needs investment on refurbishing but mostly it requires a huge change in management style. Continental breakfast was a joke since the only items available (if at all) were slices of french toast and bagels together with grape jelly and grape juice drink. The housekeeping was hit and miss and some days there was no room cleaning or bedmaking at all.It seems that, unsurprisingly, despite the hotel's ample provision of rooms there were few takers.

Nostalgia and extra serving of customer service
This hotel reminded me of the hotels my family would stay at on road trips when I was a child. It has a sense of nostalgia that made it feel like home. It is an older facility so you can hear the muffled voices of your neighbors but for me, it added to the charm. Everything was clean and the tv looked fairly new (I never turned it on). It has a wonderful grassed courtyard with a five-sided chiminea that the rooms overlook and we were even able to enjoy a late night fire there. It has a pool but I didn't bring my swim suit so I did not get a chance to check it out. All the staff bent over backwards to accommodate any requests we had and were a pleasure to talk to. Close to the galleries and restaurants, if you are looking for a basic place to stay for a good price with a friendly staff, stay here!
