I loved my stay here. It is an older hotel. with character. It seemed more authentic than hotels with plastic furniture. The staff was excellent.. I was made to feel at home quickly. The room was clean and comfy. It was very quiet. The restaurant had great food. The lodge has easy access to the community. I look forward to returning during the holidays.

In need of maintenance

Posted Oct 29, 2017
Checked in for a two day stay, got a call 10 minutes later that I needed to call Expedia because they couldn’t find the payment (their job not mine), after they already checked me in. While I’m on hold they call and say they have it figured it out. So then I try to use the internet... hmmm not working even though it’s advertised. Call the front, sorry yeah our internet isn’t working right now (like it’s just okay and we’re stuck with it, no apologies, it’s juat the way it is apparently). Okay fine, we’re here so I go to sit on one of the beds, and the blankets have crusty “spots” on them... The TV is so fuzzy it reminded me of the 90s. It was a little warm, so I decided maybe I should turn on the AC for a little while... nope, that doesn’t work either. So we go to bed, wake up the next day and my wife gets a call from them complaining that our room is empty and we should have told them if we checked out already... well, we hadn’t checked out, and I was still sitting in the room. Decided to take a shower, well there’s no ventilation, so the room’s ceiling condensates and the beads of water were kind of yellow. Expedia sent me a message asking about check in and I complained there, and the hotel answered that they’d address it directly, well they didn’t. We passed out for our last night, I woke up took another shower near check out time, my hair was wet and it was a little cold outside, so I decided to use the blow dryer, nope that didn’t work either.

Hotel. It kept up

Posted Oct 29, 2017
Black dirty carpet, rusty tub with old stained mat, though room was nice and large, would not stay here again, old and run down for same price as a nice hotel.

Close to town, easy access, plenty of parking.

Posted Oct 28, 2017
Pros: Price. Easy access and parking, good location to use for visits to Taos Ski Valley, Rio Grande Canyon, and Questa/Red River.
Cons: Make a point to keep things working properly. Several ac outlets worn out. Plugs fell out due to their own weight. Often took 5 flushes to clear bowl.
Location: Easy walk to restaurants, a little farther to Taos Plaza. Much shopping conducive to browsing. Nearby fuel and snacks. Taos Pueblo very close.
We have stayed at Kachina each year for last 4 years. Everything as expected except for WiFi. There was no service in rooms, only the LOBBY area. About a 4 minute walk to lobby to connect. Although there were two WiFis visible from our room, even with connection with one there was only internet service once per hour or so for maybe 20 seconds. This affected our ability to plan the rest of our trip or check open hours of a restaurant. Note: their web page and sign says "WiFi All Areas". Management knew about the problem when I asked, saying "We know. Service is good in the lobby, though." Nice heated pool. Comfortable lobby with coffee and restaurant.

To Daryl on Expedia: Thanks. We have checked the electric plugs to assure proper operation and the stool flusher. Comcast has been unable to correctly install our internet system so we are making adjustments without delay. I apologize! W. Dean Koop Owner and General Manager

Spend a little extra for comfort & cleanliness. The manager of motel has heat set for his pocket book regardless of the outside temps. Not cool!!

Historic Taos

Cons: new carpeting
The Kachina Lodge is that rare experience...history of the wild west. You will enjoy your stay here its close to downtown and art galleries, restaurants and entertainment on the Plaza.

horrible place

Posted Oct 17, 2017
Pros: Only their breakfast
Cons: everything.
Location: prime location in Taos
When I got there a number of people could not access their room, because they had not been cleaned and no one knew why. At ten in the evening they finally had a room, gave me the key and when I walked in, the room had not been cleaned at all, even the bed had not been made. When I returned to the reception they told me they gave me the wrong room number. Once I had the right number, I went into the room, which looked cleaned, but the sheets had a blood-like faded stain, hard and sticky, so, clearly dirty. The carpets in the hall were disgusting and a man - a smoker, smoking is allowed in this so-called hotel - walked into my room while I was in bed! Obviously cards work on any and every room in this awful place. I had to lock the door for safety. One of my neighbors appeared to be a drunk who actually lived in the hotel room and threw trash everywhere, drank, sang loudly and smoked. A few others clearly use the rooms as residence. I stayed at Kachina last year and was very happy with it, but something changed and it has definitely gone downhill, which is too bad, considering that the breakfast is cheap and really quite delicious.
