Beautiful

Posted Nov 18, 2017
Beautiful property. There was only one negative for me. I got in late. The property is huge and not well lit. Was hard finding the entrance of the building assigned. I was carrying a lot. The terrain and lack of light made it a bit dificult to walk and navigate. Other than that the place looks great.

Seems more suited to events

Posted Nov 13, 2017
Pros: Staff, bar/restaurant and the grounds
Cons: Our room could have done with being renovated, while the jacuzzi and swimming pool need an overhaul.
Location: Nearby Tarrytown is very pleasant - lots of cafes, restaurants and independent stores. Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is also close by.
The staff at the hotel were very helpful and couldn't have been better in assisting. It appears we booked the last room that was available at the hotel, and the room we got reflected that. It was in a 1970s-style building that had seen better days. The room itself was fine, but could do with some love - paint was chipped/peeling, and the wallpaper was a little patchy in places. The sauna was closed for repairs (it would have been nice to have been told this in advance), while the pool and jacuzzi weren't in the greatest condition (especially the latter which had tepid water and very few bubbles - it was more like a warm bath!). Having said that, the bar and restaurant (Cellar 49) were great, and breakfast seemed very popular. There was a wedding party at the hotel, and on reflection, the place seems set up for those sorts of events or conferences. The grounds are very pretty too. All in all, fairly standard - just don't go expecting it to be particularly luxurious or you may be disappointed.

Hi, Christopher. We appreciate your feedback. While we’re thrilled you enjoyed our restaurant, it’s disappointing that you didn’t leave us completely satisfied. We regret not having the chance to address your concerns when it truly mattered and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Where the meaning of the word “guest” is lost

Posted Nov 13, 2017
We stayed on a Saturday to attend a wedding nearby. Like most guests from out of town, we planned to drop our bags and change prior to attending the ceremony at 3:30. Upon arriving at 1:30, we were told (w/ apathy burgeoning on enjoyment) that no rooms were available, check in is at 4 and that we could have lunch and try back at 2:30. Upon our return at 2:30, the front desk agent, Luz, literally laughed in our faces. A manager was called, and she reminded us over and over that it is the policy to check in at 4. The disconnect lies in that the hotel is a wedding destination. There was more than 1 wedding on this very cold day in mid-November. The general sense throughout the stay was that we were a number, a sale, and not guests - that they could care less about our experience. The brunch the following morning was handled in the same manner, it was booked from 9-11, however when we arrived at 10:30, they had begun clearing the buffet and the staff told us repeatedly that they were supposed to be working to clear and not getting us utensils, coffee, or water, which I had to ask for 4 times. By 11 the chairs around us were stacked and we were being shuffled out like cattle. I’ve traveled the world for work for a decade. I’ve rarely given a bad review because I understand that things don’t always go smoothly and I set my expectations to the claims of the hotel and the reviews. This is a wedding destination. Check in should be earlier.

A great experience

The scale of the estate was pleasantly surprising; as was the history of the place. Wonderful dining and breakfast amenities! All staff very friendly and attentive. Room was comfortable and well-appointed. A bit out of the way for travelers on foot, but great place for walking.

Spacious room. Clean. Good conditions. Excellent service. The garden is amazing! The only thing is that we hear everything from the room behind.

Outdated rooms

Posted Oct 23, 2017
Came back to our room to find two crickets hopping around then disappeared into the wall to resurface later. Concierge was very disappointing-tried to find dining for party of 10 and were told could only help with reservations of four people or less! Crazy! Rooms outdated but ok. Quiet area and close to highway and town which were very convenient.
