Unique Hotel
There was something about this hotel that reminded me of a bed and breakfast - maybe is was the breakfast that was served the following morning. Our room was on the second floor and very nice, but you could occasionally hear people upstairs or from the room next door. The restaurant that is attached to the hotel was excellent and the chef was the hotel owner.

Place to stay near my mountain climbing trail.
The Hotel was okay. A nice rustic place with a very good breakfast-no complaints there. The room I was given was much too small for a queen size bed, it was better suited for a twin size bed. I decided to stick it out a stay in the room even though I was offered a larger room for a few more dollars a night. I would probably come back but request a larger room and not one right next to the restaurant if possible, it was a bit noisy.

The hotel needs a little updating! The meal made up for it and so did the amazing hot breakfast. Very sweet women in the morning setting it up. Would come back for the meals!

Worst ever
My wife and I travel a lot and rarely have seen such a bad hotel. The room was barely big enough to have a queen bed in. The bathroom must have been renovated in the 1920s. Seriously, it is the worst hotel I have ever been to. We paid for two nights but only stayed for one and was happy to forfeit the second night rate, just to get out of there. We even tried to get another hotel in Cortez or Dolores the first night, and forfeit both nights, but couldn't find one online. It was that bad.

Unique old hotel in beautiful setting
The old building has very nice and interesting public space. The room we stayed in was small, but clean with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was outstanding and we heard the dinner at attached restaurant is also excellent.

No ac, but no need at night. Radiator heat not turned on. Quiet environment. Town had one gas station, three liquor stores and two bars. Only food in town was the dining room at the hotel, and a fairly average bar-b -q joint. Food at hotel was excellent and scenery war great.

Really friendly staff and nice location
Really friendly staff and nice location in the mountains. Regarding the room ... it's really old ... I could hear everybody speaking around me, in the hallway or at the restaurant. And it's really small ... the bathroom is the tiniest one I ever seen. The room ... I couldn't have my bag open and the door open at the same time, there was not enough place. But the staff was really kind and I'm sure they have better rooms than the one I got !

Not near Durango as advertised
Hotel was advertised near Durango. It's an hour and a half away. The room was extremely small. The bathroom was so small my knees hit the sink while I used the toilet and I'm a 5'7" lady. Had to go to the kitchen to check in and our key was just sitting on the managers ledge. Check out we just left the key on the ledge. To top it off, the tv didn't work.

Do not stay here!!
We arrived at the hotel around 7. There was no one at the check out desk so we found the manager in the kitchen and he acted annoyed that he had to come give us the key to our room. He did give us the suite instead of the room because he said the room was not available. That was the only nice thing he did the whole stay. We arrived in our room and we were not very happy. It was clean and larger than we thought but there was no soap in the bathroom, they said they would charge an extra $25.00 if we didn't keep the kitchen clean, really??? There was no phone in the room, which normally I wouldn't really care but if you need something you had to go find the guy. We couldn't figure out how to use the TV and so my husband had to go find him and he was very rude. We went to sit down on the couch and it was a hide a bed and there was no mattress so when you sat down you about fell off the couch. I would not recommend this place to anyone. We were very disappointed and will never stay there again. The worst part of the whole stay was the manager and how rude he was. When my husband and I stay in hotels we are never the type to complain unless it is really bad. I cannot believe this hotel was rated 2 1/2 stars. It should have been a 1/2 star. I always treat people with respect and am very polite and I expected to be treated the same. If he was so stressed out and couldn't handle people then he needs to get out of the business or hire a lot of extra help. Thank you.

Wouldn't stay here again
We had to wait to check in because the manager was working in the restaurant. Not a huge deal, but still was about 15 minutes just sitting there. I understand these smaller hotels don't have the same amount of staffing that a large hotel would. I reserved a room with two queen beds. The first room he gave us had one bed. I said that wouldn't work and then he tried giving us a room with 1 queen and a sleeper sofa that was in a little sideroom barely big enough for 1 person. Finally, after complaining again, he did give us the room we reserved with 2 queen beds. Not sure why we didn't get that the first time. Hotel was a bit run down and the rooms looked and felt dirty - wouldn't bother staying there again.

great romantic escape
My husband and I escaped for a Valentine's Day weekend and it was PERFECT! We were the only guests in the lodge. The caretaker, Bill, check us in even though we were a late arrival. That night we saw a fox at the hot tub! Bill cooked us breakfast that morning-a delisious keish and then french toast the next morning. The coffee was great. Its very rustic, which is exactly what we were looking for! The restaurant was the best food we had ever eaten! Only 20 minutes from Telluride, and totally worth staying out of the tackieness of Telluride!

Quaint mountain experience.
A beautiful lodge with friendly staff that made a perfect middle-of-the-route stop between Cortez and Telluride. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding. Dinner was fairly expensive but very good. Staff was very accommodating. It's easy to forget about Rico on this scenic route as just a town to blow through, but this hotel was a relaxing stop and nice surprise.

Reasonable price for an overnight
I thought the staff were lovely and breakfast was plentiful and dellcious! The room was comfortable though fairly spartan. I was bothered by a slightly musty smell, and couldn't open the window (some damage) to air it out. I would say it was convenient for an overnight on my trip, and it is probably an affordable option to nearby Telluride, but it is short on room ambiance. Being pet-friendly was a plus! Also, the restaurant attached is a great gourmet establishment, with a good bar and excellent food and service-I enjoyed having a delicious, "fancy" meal in a casual atmosphere.

Only place in town
We were disappointed. Our room was described like a 3 star and we barely found 1 star. Promised robes and refrigerator were non existent. The bathroom was so small you could barely close the door once inside. The cheap shower didn't even have a place to put a bar of soap. If the rate was cut in half my expectations would have been met, but this was a ripoff.

Overpriced for what you get!
This place was marginal at best. We waited for 20 minutes before the owner came to check us in. Very old property, but has been kept somewhat clean. Rustic theme is certainly authentic. Not too far of a drive to Telluride and is probably the only hotel for 25 miles either direction. If you're in a pinch for a last minute place to stay, then the Rico Hotel will work for one night. If you want to spend your life savings, then drive the extra 45 minutes to the ski village or Telluride.

It was different. The Hotel was not as it seemed in the pictures. We read up on it on the web site and we knew it was in an old minning town.It took us 14 hrs. to get there. It was late in the evening when we did arrive. We were told we had to go to the restaurant next door to check in. My husband got up early the next morning and went for a bicylce ride just to see the town. He was surprised there was not very much to see. And the little shops that were there did not open until 11:00 a.m. Which is okay if you wanted to sleep in a little later. But there was no coffee anywhere. We were told breakfast would be served from 8-9 a.m. We got dressed and ready to go. Went into Telluride and went hicking for the majority of the day. Ate a late lunch and got back to the hotel around 3:30 that afternoon. Tired and just wanting to go in and take a shower after hiking for 4 hrs. Come to find out there was no electricity. We were told a tree had fallen and interrupted the electricity. We had made reservations that afternoon to go to the restaurant for dinner. Had to take a semi warm shower. Finally about 9:00 that evening the lights came back on. In the restaurant. the clientale all cheered. If there were coffee available in the rooms. Or even a breakfast place to sit and drink your coffee if you are an early riser. I think if would of been a little better.

A gem!
An historic property built for silver miners long ago. Rustic, comfortable and inviting. Great sitting areas on first and second floors. Bed was very comfortable. Pillows were great. Amazing breakfast -- a 5 star hotel quality meal. Building also houses the Argentine Grill. Owner of the hotel is the chef and was formerly chef at Bel Air Hotel in Beverly Hills. Dinner was outstanding and memorable, in a cozy, rustic environment. This was a highlight of our tour of the southwestern U.S.

Poor service, thin walls
I could hear people very plainly in next room, the walls must be paper thin. Hotel staff was very unfriendly and surley. The check in desk is in the middle of the hallway and not marked, nor were there any signs telling you how to find it. The path to the main entrance is not marked. People could not find the entrance to the restaurant either. The floors are very squeeky, I guess that stands to reason as the building is very old. The advertised breakfast was a joke. Overall the place is poorly managed and poorly staffed. I will never go back.

Rico, a nice mountain get away
This place is not for the luxury type hotel stays. The rooms are basic, no air, no soap or shampoos, but who stays in their room for a night in the mountains! The night was cool as the rain showered the outside mountains. I thought this would be a good time for a hot tub, it was right outside our window. We took a morning walk around the town and was thrilled to see no traffic jams or rush hour. We came back to a continental breakfast and a lukewarm shower. It was close to camping but more comfortable with a soft bed.

Rico Hotel
We had a mixed experience at the Rico Hotel. The man who gave us our key was not friendly at all, and seemed like we were imposing on him. When we opened the door to the room it hit the bed. In order to get to the bathroom, we had to sidle, one foot at a time, past the bottom of the bed. The pictures on line made the room seem much bigger! We went to bed early, as Rico is so small that there was nothing to do in town. Bed was comfortable and the cool mountain air felt great. Breakfast was quite delicious and filling, but the lounge does not have comfortable seating and was full when we got there. The Rico's history is interesting and it was adequate for one night, for the price, but we would not choose it again.

Correct the miles from Durango - it's 82 (!). This is deception on the part of hotels.com and the Lodge! Never would have knowingly driven that far. The absolute smallesst room ever for two people - should be outlawed! Great breakfast Treated like we were an inconvience at check in - which took over 20 minutes.

Rico Hotel in Rico, Co
We decided to stay here because of the price and customer reviews, but it was located about 50 miles from our destination of Durango. Wish we'd known that. The outside was very disappointing, but the room and inside was a pleasant surprise. There is even a very nice little restaurant attached that is usually only open on weekends or to patrons of the hotel. We got there a little late, but the owner, Eamon, who is also a wonderful chef, cooked us a great dinner. We were the only ones there that first evening, and found the whole experience very charming, even worth the extra drive. Reminds me of an old fashioned bed and breakfast. The breakfast on both days was wonderful.(and free). Eamon is a great cook and apparently loves to. The only complaint we had, (and I didn't tell Eamon about this), was the lack of hot water for bathing. We'd go back in a heartbeat. Oh, we spoke to a store owner in Telluride, and apparently, the restaurant, The Argentine, is a local favorite, even though it's 40 miles from there.
