No sound proofing, door knobs loose, mattress awful. We would not stay here again.

Just right!

Posted Sep 11, 2017
Pros: Convenience to Maryhill Winery concert.
Cons: Perhaps the amount of towels could match the number of people who were scheduled to stay in the room.
Location: 20 minutes from Maryhill Winery/Museum. Windsurfing and water activities on the river, The Dalles fun, and hiking.
We enjoyed our morning breakfast and quiet night. Parking was plentiful. Thanks so much!

Close to freeway

Posted Aug 29, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: Dated facility
Location: Maupin, OR and Deschutes River
Stayed for Eclipse on 21 August a 2 hour drive south in Madras, OR for path of totality. Not a bad place to stay in The Dalles. Close to highways and the town.

Needs more than just cosmetic repairs

Posted Aug 27, 2017
If this were a small mom & pop owned place with cheap rates, I might call it charming. But I expect a lot more from a big chain hotel like Shilo, especially for the price I paid (only a few dollars less than a MUCH nicer hotel where I stayed the next night). This is not up to Shilo's standards. It still has actual metal keys, but only one of the two keys I was given actually worked. I had to get out my own tools and fix the shower to even get the water to turn on. No vegan options for the free breakfast. The staff were very nice, but it took FOREVER to get checked in and a long line of people where waiting. They said it was new software, but shouldn't new software be faster? I don't mind cosmetic hotel items being a bit out of date to save a few bucks, but the hotel needs updates to essential items like plumbing, door locks, etc. The room was clean and comfortable, other than the shower not working. Not a great experience.

Convenient Stopover location.

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Pros: It is an easy off/on from the Interstate. Located on the river.
Cons: It could use some updating. No elevator.
The staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed there on a trip to the Oregon coast. It was convenient.

The breakfast is terrible

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Pros: Location.
Cons: Just cook some normal breakfast
Location: Plenty of great sightseeing in a 30 minutes radius.
The room is OK. The location is great (right next to the river). But the hotel has minimum staff (only 1 person at the counter). The breakfast is the worst I have seen: IHop is 10 times better in comparison. The restaurant service is barely there.

We are going to stay there again

Posted Jul 27, 2017
Pros: Location, convenience, staff and the restaurant is awesome!
Cons: Some of the furnishings are starting to show their age which did bother us.
Location: This website will not let me put anything about the area here.
Very surprising in a good way. Normally we would stay in Hood River which is only a short way from The Dalles. But this was more cost effective and perfect for exploring the areas around the Columbia scenic area.

Aging but comfortable

Really nice, staff, a restaurant with very good food, and a comfortable room made kur stay enjoyable. The common areas are quite dated and in some areas shabby. The inner grounds and pool are nice, and the view is picturesque.
