"Small but clean room .friendly staff."

"Hotel St.James is a small, quiet hotel. The room was small but comfortable. The location is phenomenal. There are two subway stations within a 4 minute walk and the 42nd Street Times Square subway station is within a 15 min walk. The air conditioner is a window mounted unit and is very loud and moderately functional. Housekeeping kept the room spotless and well stocked. Housekeeping was provided every day. Lyceum theater is literally feet from the hotel entrance. Several other theaters are easily within walking distance . There is a market next door to the hotel called Cook Market that provides an affordable alternative to expensive restaurants. The market has premade sandwiches, wraps, deserts, a hot line, a fruit line an area where fresh sandwiches are made. The food is very good. There is a dining room on top of the market so you can take food away for eat upstairs. I visited at lunch time and there must have been 30 people in the market getting lunch. You know it’s good when locals eat there. I utilized the market for 2 meals during the 6 days that I stayed in NYC."

"The front reception staff was very nice. The room 808 toilet hanger was loose and didn’t flush properly. I had to open the top of the tank to adjust the water pressure. The bath shower handler came out of the shower. I stayed only one night and it was enough. Hopefully, they fix it first the next customer."

"Room1 was dirty, hairs everywhere. No plug in bath, live electrical wires exposed to bedside lamp on display, entire room very worn and didn’t reflect the photos on Hotel.com website. Room2 slightly better but again live wires hanging from wall, albeit above head height on this occasion, this is where the Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm should have been. Staff said that they would address this immediate have a working alarm installed (New York Law). After 5hrs still no alarm so upgraded to a better room, which we were initially told wasn’t available. Room3. Clearly recently renovated and much better; however, new lights on walls and taps all loose and hanging free. Also, room was by the lift with zero noise insulation, it would have been quieter sleeping in Central Park. Manager stated the ‘facility charge’ would be removed for the stay to compensate; however, at checkout it was still there on the bill, and to rub salt in the wound we had been charged for breakfast, which was included with the initial booking. Staff. Initial receptionist and supervisor very apologetic and helpful, sadly the receptionist at checkout didn’t appear to care or be that interested in our situation until I made my feelings very clear. On the positive side the location was great. The very worst hotel stay my wife and I have ever experienced - obviously can’t recommend and wouldn’t stay again, even with IHG changing the hotel to a Crown Plaza. "

"Two friends and I stayed here for one night on Mother's Day weekend. The hotel was very well kept and clean, and every staff member I spoke to was helpful and friendly. The room itself was very clean and comfortable with a nice view. I would stay here again, and would recommend the Hyatt to anyone looking for a nice place to stay near Broadway for easy walking access to the theaters (and many other destinations such as Times Square and Rockefeller Center). "
