Inattentive Housekeeping and Tired Decor

After seeing the price for this hotel compared against the alternatives in the area, I wasn't expecting much in terms of amenities. I was, however, expecting the bare minimum of hotel cleanliness standards in this country to be met. Setting aside the clear absence of forward thinking management/ownership (outdated decor, lack of basic improvements in things such as paint, flooring, in-room features, bed coverings, branding, etc.) there are a number of gross inadequacies in areas that are considered compulsory by any business selling itself as a hotel establishment in Canada. These include the following: Bedding: the mattresses in the room were both sunken and damaged. The problems were bad enough that the physical protrusions of the springs could be felt through the mattress covering. This indicates an advanced breakdown of the foam/mesh topper designed to distribute someone's weight across the springs. This problem could have been mitigated if housekeeping had a proper mattress rotation schedule. Cleanliness: There were sizable pieces of food stuck to the carpet next to the bed as well as a full can of hairspray. Two full cartons of milk were also found in the window sill directly above the heater. Surfaces in the room had sticky residue and there was a foreign substance splashed on the TV screen. Safety: Curtains hang directly into the room heater - a fire hazard. Also, the front desk attendant advised us the lot was not safe to park in.

Thank you for your feedback. These cleanliness issues are not acceptable and we will be addressing them with our staff. We will take a look at the mattresses - we have replaced some already this year and do plan to replace more. As this is an older hotel we are planning some updates over the next couple of years both to the rooms and to the building itself. With regard to the safety concerns we do have a security service at the hotel at night.

Room was very small for two people.

Pros: Convenient location.
Location: Not there for things to do. Just needed overnight accommodations while passing through.
Receptionist at check in was very helpful and pleasant. The check out was very easy and quick. There were two charges on the bill that were optional and no one bothered to tell me about that. If I had known about that, I would have requested that they delete those two items. Apparently this is some kind of an Ontario deal. I learned about the optional part after I left Thunder Bay..

Thank you for your feedback, we're glad to hear that the check-in and check-out process went well. With regard to the optional fees we recommend that if you see a charge you are unfamiliar with you ask the front desk staff about them and they can explain further - this goes for any hotel. Depending on the type of charge they can often be reversed.

Needs bigger rooms

Stayed at this hotel on a medical trip but it felt like I got shoved in a closet room room was tiny There was a tiny window way up high with a lovely view of a brick wall No toilet paper in the washroom not even soap Won’t be staying here again for 124$ +a deposit fee there’s a lot more nicer places to stay

We're sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We will be addressing the missing bathroom items with our staff. Unfortunately we do have some rooms in the hotel that have a limited view but we do try to place guests in other rooms when possible.

Staffs are terrible. I had to come in front desk 3 times before entering the room.I was almost 500 m walking from room

We're sorry you were dissatisfied with your stay. Unfortunately due to the layout of the hotel some of our rooms are farther than others but you're welcome to make a request to be closer to the lobby and we will do our best to accommodate.

Older hotel...convenient

Pros: Quiet...well kept
Cons: Breakfast is pretty standard...could use more savory foods. Most choices involve sugar.
Location: It's located in mid city. There are other choices nearby, but I like the age of this one.
I always stay at the Travelodge. It's convenient and close to areas for walking in the north ward of the city. Lots of parking!

The breakfast is a joke too many tables you can’t move. No fans in bathroom, their vending machine out of water and other drinks came out different then what they say and when you complain they say not there’s

Did not know the hotel was pet friendly, have serious allergies to pets and was put into a pet friendly room (and do not have a pet). It was dirty with dog hair. Eventually got put into a no pet room and they stated we must always ask for no pet rooms. Yet we were unaware of the hotel being pet friendly. No other hotel has asked us to do that. Not satisfied with the stay.

TERRIBLE

Booked and paid for hotel on Expedia get their at midnight girls at front desk wouldnt let us stay cause we didn't have a credit card. Online says they will accept a deposit of cash per night and that was a lie!!!!! Expedia argued with me about not giving my money back and wanted to put us in a rundown hotel. Just terrible not impressed was not offered anything for the inconveniencem really really upset us not impressed at all will never ever stay their or book with expedia again

We are sorry you had a bad experience at the desk. It is our policy to have a credit card at check-in to authorize for $50, but room and tax can be paid with cash or debit. If that isn't possible then we call Expedia to help relocate you. Expedia does show the policy on their website - before you select the room type to book you would scroll down towards the bottom of the page. There it lists some policies but you will need to go under "You need to know" then click "Show all policies". We will be working with Expedia to see if we can change the visibility of that policy, but we do recommend when booking on a third party website that you look through the policies at the bottom of the webpage so that you do not experience any hassle at check-in at any hotel.
