Rude staff, miniscule room size, poor location

Pros: Not much
Cons: Room size, at least on English TV channel, staff with a customer service attitude
Location: Close to Nakano station but far away from anything of interest in Tokyo
Hotel is on top few floors of aging building in an area of Tokyo not at all close to anything and with almost no restaurants or shops where English is spoken. Even for Japanese standards the room is tiny, and the only TV channels are Japanese. Food so-so at ridiculous prices. Staff is rude and unaccommodating: asked for a 15-minute extension to the 11am checkout and they wanted 10% of the daily room charge and even appeal to the manager resulted in no satisfaction. Stay away from this hotel!

Nice view, quiet, really accessible

I got the room facing the train station and the view was great! The room is quiet but the lobby might get a little noisy with the fans who are queuing up for the concerts held there. 5 mins walk from the nearest train station and bus stop. Surrounded by many places to shop and eat. Staffs are very friendly and accommodating and allowed me to put my bags at the lobby when I reached a few hours before check in time. When I went back to check-in, they had already helped me put my luggage into my room! Really great experience, highly recommended especially if you're here to watch a concert at their concert hall.

Excellent location. Tiny rooms

Pros: Laundry facilities extremely effective. Panoramic views. Toiletries.
Cons: Condition of the hotel is tired. The "western" breakfast was disgusting and completely overpriced. Rigid staff.
Location: Location is excellent next to Nakano station. Nakano market is across the street and while not geared towards a western customer, it's great.
Location is right next to Nakano station. Hotel is located on the 16th floor, offering excellent panoramic views over Tokyo. Windows do not open and the ventilation is only adequate. Hotel staff are courteous but only a few of them speak proficient English. They are extremely rigid on hotel rules such as check out time and will persist in calling the room if one is only five or ten minutes late. The rooms extremely small and are rather tired in the 1980's style, which some might find retro-sentimental, but adequate value for what one is paying. Recommended for single travellers who are looking for a budget hotel.

Room and staff are much more like a 3.4- 4.0 star hotel. The only issue about a higher star rating is the fact that there isn't multiple restaurants on site only near by.

Business hotel

I have clients in Nakano so this is convenient. For sightseeing it's a bit out of town though. Rooms are however bigger than average and you can comfortably open your suitcase and still walk around the room, unlike the average hotel in Tokyo. Breakfast is expensive and bland so would recommend getting that elsewhere. Wifi was intermittent on 19F so was hard to do work without technical issues.

Nakano Sunplaza Hotel: excellent choice in Tokyo

4 out of 5
Posted Dec 17, 2015
Pros: Great location; very reasonable rates; clean & comfortable rooms.
Cons: As the hotel is next to a plaza that often holds music performances, rooms facing the plaza can be noisy. Try to get a room on the other side.
Location: Restaurants nearby. Train station & Starbucks across the street. Bakery, department store with grocery, and post office within walking distance.
Nakano Sunplaza Hotel is my first choice in Tokyo. It is easy to make the reservation on Expedia, and check in & out go well. Even though the staff speak and understand limited English, it is very easy to communicate with them. The Hotel is on the top floors of a convention center, so you may be a little confused on your first visit, as there is not a sign outside the hotel indicating that it is a hotel! The hotel lobby is on the 16th floor. Taxi drivers understand "Nakano Sunplaza Hotel." Be sure they drop you off on the side street, where the entrance is ground level with a revolving door. The restaurant on the top floor provides a very good breakfast.

Pros: It is a practical, well designed hotel. Probably aimed mainly at the business traveller. The restaurant on the top floor has a good view.
Cons: It uses an old room key system, rather than a modern swipe card. But this is no problem.
Location: Close to station. Many convenience shops and restaurants nearby.
I have stayed here many times and am always satisfied with the service. The wifi is easy to access and reliable.

Good location for trains

Pros: Location
Nearby station runs trains to anywhere in Tokyo. Room is very small as is the bed but this is fairly typical of Japan.
