Posted Aug 11, 2015
Pros:
Location:

Good location in UenoPosted Jul 27, 2015
The hotel has more of a hostel feel than most of the Japenese hotels we stayed in but has good ensuite facilities. It is quite old and has a slightly aged feel but our room was clean and had good air conditioning. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Sensitive to noise? Beware.Posted Jul 27, 2015
Pros: Nice location, easy access, surrounded by convenience stores, English-speaking reception
Cons: The fridges are too noisy, walls are too thin.
My fourth time to Japan, third time in Tokyo. This is the first time I couldn't sleep well because of the noise in and out of the hotel room. I stayed for 4 nights. I arrived at the hotel at 12:30am the first night, but when I lied on the tatami mattress, I could hear no-stop water dripping sound, which was so disturbing I thought I heard ghostly sounds. Couldn't fell asleep at all, woke up my husband and got down to convenience store to buy a bottle of wine. Got myself half drunk to fall asleep finally. In the morning, I could hear clearly people talking in the corridor and all sort of sounds. In conclusion, the walls are very thin they couldn't block any noise. So I couldn't sleep well still. The second night was also nightmare because I woke up at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep because of the dripping sound. I stayed awake until reception open (at 6 am), talked to the receptionist and requested to change to another room. He said no one ever complaint about water dripping noise and came to the room and checked the sound. Then we found out the noise came from the fridge, maybe it's too old or faulty. Anyway, switched to another double-bed room on the same floor. Didn't have the water-dripping sound, still the room was too small, there was a little bee buzzing sound from the fridge. Got through the third night, the fourth night just plugged off the fridge. Sleep is a big issue when travelling because you lacked energy to go through the planned activities. Won't book again

Posted Jul 16, 2015

Friendy placePosted Jul 1, 2015 on Hotels
I came into Ueno to get ready to show a group of friends Tokyo. We will be stay in another Ueno hotel (because the Oak was full) The Oak is a friendly place that has everything you need in a business man hotel. The rooms are small but clean and tidy. The guests come down to cook, chat, do laundry in the reception area. The staff are very helpful in finding fun things to do. Good location , close to a Ginza line subway stop and the JR train.

Close to station, quiet, friendly staff. A foreigner in Japan would enjoy this budget hotel.
