Really nice Ryokan. Me and my family really enjoyed our stay. It's conveniently located and my father loved the public bath! One minor point was that the table in our tatami room was dusty so when we poured tea there was dust in the cup. Besides this we had no complaints.

Great value for money and feels like home
Value for money is superb. One-third price of basic businessman's hotel room. I hesitate to recommend lest it now become full every night! Price increases on weekends on holidays, as is standard in Japan. Location is so-so. Close to Taito Lifelong Learning Centre and not far from 'Street of Kitchen Knives'. Breakfast (I had Japanese) was very good. I think the fish had been frozen, but what do you expect your 5000 JPY? Staff were very good - senior Mr. Sato, his daughter and son-in-law Mr. Suzuki (was the elder lady also family?) Service was very good. Room was good, especially deep (albeit small) bathtub, couch in room, and western bed. Don't expect beautiful. It is functiobal - previsely what I wanted and expected on my low budget. Other: elevator. Obvious 'Oyo' sign. I did not try on-site 24-hour Japanese bath, as I had my own in room plus tried the closest 'Sento' (public bath) which was nothing to write home about.

Wonderful ryokan room. Comfortable futon. The hotel itself was a little seedy. All areas smelled of cigarettes and stale food. Seemed like people outside in side alley were smoking. Unfriendly front desk.

It was a pleasant stay on a budget. I stayed in a single room and it was bigger than similar hotels/ryokans I had stayed in in the past. The check-in process was smooth and there was a good air-conditioner, which was a big plus considering how hot Japan has been. The room was cleaned every day too. It is in a quiet residential area, which I liked. Not every staff member spoke English but they were polite and helpful. I will stay there again!

Meager accommodations but reasonable for the price
Small room where I stayed with 3 adults and 1 baby. Sink in room but toilet is shared with floor. Two communal Japanese baths on 2nd and 1st floor. Coin laundry on first floor. Iriya subway stop is a 10 minute walk. Ueno stop is maybe 15 or 20 minutes walk. This is a humble place in a peaceful location with accommodating staff. If your expectations are not too high you will find it satisfactory.

Quiet Hotel, Friendly Staff
Perfect for experiencing Tokyo on a budget. This business hotel provides everything you need to get a good night's rest. Cozy rooms but very quiet. The staff is very polite and helpful. This would be the next step above staying at a hostel. Less than 10-minute walk to Tokyo Metro Iriya Station.

Cosy, Clean and Traditional
Welcomed by friendly host, small yet charming place, Swift check-in process with many tourist places brochures. Got the Japanese room, clean and cosy. Full of amenities like coffee/tea maker, television (Japanese channels only) and yukata. Very comfortable futon mattress to sleep on. Cleaned every morning. Bathroom a bit small for us but its fit the purpose. on the minus side, the host not fluent in English and a bit far from the metro. Overall, we happy that we choose this place, will certainly back for 2nd time.

Experience a traditional Japanese stay
This hotel features several traditional Japanese rooms with the sliding doors, tatami mats on the floor, and you sleep on a futon on the floor instead of a raised bed. You leave your shoes at the front and switch into slippers. It is a nice way to experience this traditional style of cozy Japanese hotel. The overall hotel is a little run-down. But you go to a place like this for the traditional experience, not for pristine modern décor. The guy at the front desk does not speak a lot of English, but he is cheerful and will check you in just fine. Not accessible for those with physical disabilities or weaknesses. The main entrance requires you to walk up several stairs. The lift inside the hotel is very tiny, and I doubt a wheelchair could fit inside it.

We thought we made a mistake to select this place. Front lobby was on the 2nd floor, but no sign of the elevator, so we had to carry the heavy luggage ourselves on the stairs. Later found out the elevator (2 people barely fit) was hidden in the small garage behind many vehicles. The hall way was old and shabby. The old man (owner?) was not cheerful and didn’t greet us nor “thank you” even when we left. A bathroom was too small but it was clean, though.

Nice little place to stay
For the price and location it's a great little place. It's not fancy but the rooms are clean and there's A/C if you need it. The private bathroom is small but that's to be expected. I recommend though going the Japanese way and taking a bath in the communal bathroom. It's a great experience. If you want breakfast there you have to let them know the night before and if you want western or Japanese style. Apparently both are really good. I personally suggest to just venture out and find a local joint. You can eat for cheaper. Though the breakfast is only ¥850 about. If you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the young areas of Japan I suggest here.

Comfortable traditional Japanese inn
The elderly manager had poor English and was grumpy. Kitchen was untidy and not that clean but our room and bathroom were spotless. We had clean towels and fresh sheets every day. It was the first place in Japan we stayed in that supplied English tea and coffee and that was much appreciated. As we were using our JR pass, it was a 20 minute walk to the station which was a bit too far but it was excellent value. Would have been nice to have a hairdryer. The bathroom was the smallest bathroom we have ever seen but it was very clean and functional.

You can do better.
I panicked because of a long weekend and needed to be near Euno station. This man who runs the place is a bit weird but the lady was super nice. Hard to find if you don't know Tokyo. It's in the middle of nowhere. I had to get a cab and even he didn't know where it was. The room was fine but I'm tall so the bathroom was interesting and I've stayed at many Japanese hotels. If you're more than 187cm, look around unless you have too. Also, the guy fell asleep when I came back at 8pm so I had to scream "sumimasen" 20 times before the lady let me get my key back. I won't stay there again. I type this from a 3.5 star hotel in shinjuku for half the price.

Basic but really good
Clean, simple, lovely staff, bit of a hike to Ueno JR station (15 minute walk) but plenty of Tokyo Metro stations nearby. At the top of Kappabashi Dori, a really easy walk to the Sensoji. About 20 minutes walk to Ueno Park too. Wash and dry in the basement for 200 yen total. I had the private bathroom which although small was fine.

Good location, walking distant to Sensoji temple, very convenient to subway systems. Very clean but small room with shared bathrooms, taking a bit to get used to as we had to wait for our turns. But for the price we paid (less than $100/ day for family of three) in Tokyo, we considered a good buy.

Very Authentic and Traditional Experience
I booked this hotel because it was cheap and had was at a good location (600m/8min to Iriya station, 800m/11min to Asakusa station, 1.2km/15min to JR Uguisudani). The room is small compared to a hotel in the US, but was very reasonable compared to the other hotels I stayed at. The inn felt very much like staying at a Japanese home, as the owners seemed to be an old couple and the decor on the lobby floor felt very much like a home, with the dining room and the kitchen next to the tatami rooms. The staff spoke serviceable English, enough to let me know that I needed to change into the slippers at the entrance and store my shoes in the locker, and that I needed to leave the keys when I leave in the morning so that the room can be cleaned. On the day that I checked out, I had a flight late at night, so I asked to have my baggage stay at the inn until evening, and the owners let me put my big checked luggages in their small tatami room, for no charge, which showed me their dedication to service. One thing to note is to be sure to ask about breakfast ahead of time, as you have to schedule it ahead of time. It cost around 850yen and it was hot and filling. I got the western style room with a bathroom, but if you choose a tatami room, it will be shared bathrooms.

Authentic Ryokan Experience
Overall - This lodging was worth visiting for a brief authentic Japanese experience. Friendly staff spoke minimal English, provided an optional Japanese breakfast (approx.$8) as well as you slept in a single room with tatami mats and futons with a duvet. Shopping - There is the Asakusa shopping district within 5 mins walking with blocks and blocks of little shops as well as shrines and a large market nearby with bigger stores/restaurants/Owl cafe/Don Quiote! Could have spent a few days exploring all the stores and market! Lots of kitchenware, kimonos, cute items for great reasonable prices! This appeared to be where locals would shop and purchase items needed. Sightseeing - LOTS! train is 10 min walk away Dining - Everywhere! AMAZING delicious foodgasm experiences for $5-$10 a meal and you leave stuffed! All the food is displayed via large glossy photos or plastic replications that are IDENTICAL to what you actually get! Lodging - PROS - Cute little place appears to be family run. Loved the experience of sleeping as a local with the one room, little table, tv, sink and mirror. CONS - shared bathroom/showers with all other motel occupants. Also had to wear their slippers inside (uncomfortable plastic ones that are shared by motel occupants). You can leave your shoes in a little locker at the desk so they are safe. You turn in your key at the desk when you go out plus you had to be out of your room for hours during the day (for cleaning) and there's a curfew.

Low key cozy hotel
Well starting off this hotel is sort of hidden. We used google maps and still had trouble locating this hotel. We managed to spot it's subtle sign and discovered the main entrance on the second floor. The hotel staff was nice and spoke very decent English so we didn't have any trouble. The hotel is traditional Japanese style so you have to take your shoes off at the entrance and put them in a locker. The room was small but did it's perhaps since we are there to see Japan and not the room. The beds were very comfortable considering you sleep on the floor. It was cozy and look sort of like a family business if I were to guess which gives it a homey feel. There was only one bath for each gender and you had to wash yourself the traditional Japanese way which is wash outside the bath and then get in the bath. It was an interesting experience. Overall I recommend this hotel for a good price and being close to things in the main part of the city.

Location suited our needs.
Basic ryokan experience. Small room with all the amenities (TV, hot pot, magazines, toiletries, wi-fi, etc.). We had requested a non-smoking room when we made our reservation, but when we arrived, they said only this smoking room was available. That was disappointing. But it was located exactly where we wanted to be on our last night in Tokyo, so visiting the Senso-ji Temple, the SkyTree, and accessing the train to Narita Airport was easy. Enjoyed walking the neighborhood and area along the river with cherry trees in bloom. Would have stayed another night if we could to explore the Ueno-koen Park and other area museums.

Nice Ryokan convenient for Asakusa and Ueno areas
This is a nice friendly Ryokan run with an understanding of what non-Japanese people are used to. We had a small tatami room with futons, with a tiny ensuite bathroom and the usual cupboards and tea making facilities, and OK wifi. Breakfast is available, both Western and Japanese, at a reasonable price, but we didn't try it. Lockers for your shoes by the front door, slippers provided (though you might find your own more comfortable and easier to walk in). Everything in this hotel is on a small scale, which might be a bit startling if you have just arrived in Japan from a country where everything is larger, but it has everything you could need. The hotel is in a small side street, an easy walk from the nearest convenience store and Kappabashi-dori (everything you could want for your kitchen and more) and about 20 mins walk to Ueno Park in one direction and Asakusa in the other, SkyTree a little bit further. We arrived at Ueno station with our luggage and picked up a taxi, and were pleased to have a detailed map of the area, which helped the driver find the right place. I would definitely stay here again.

A good price for a Ryokan in Tokyo
The room is very clean and the staff were very friendly. They speak some, albeit minimal English, but enough to help you with various inquires. The place is within walking distance to Senso-Ji temple in Asakusa, Iriya station. Even Ueno Station and Sumida park are within around 20 minutes. The hotel is a block off a major street and it wasn't hard for me to find. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to experience a Ryokan without breaking the bank.

A cheap and good place.
For its price, Sakura Ryokan provides a lot. Location - Near Hibiya Metro Line which brings you to Ueno, Ginza, Tsukiji directly. If you want to take JR Yamamote lines, Uguisudani Stn is about 3 junctions down from Iriyia Statio. In the middle of Asakura and Ueno, places that offer shopping and cultural insights (I find pure shopping districts boring; they are all the same) Convenience stores are of walking distance (Family Mart, 7-11, 24hr bentos) and 7-11 has an international ATM. If you are staying for many nights, I suggest getting your food/snacks from a small supermarket near Iriyia Station, Exit 1. The shop name is CCP (Consumer Convenience something lol) Room - I stayed in a single Japanese room. What I liked was that coffee (creamer&sugar), red/green tea packets were provided. Though I didn't have a bathroom, I have a personal washing sink with mirror. Shared toilet have toilet seats with bidet. Shared bath is Japanese style (bathe while seating + a hot tub if you're interested). The downside to the hotel is that there were no English channels on the TV (laptop would be great as entertainment since WiFi is decent) and no hair comb were provided. Staff don't speak really good English but they can do check-in, check-outs with little problems
