Room was like a cave

Posted Jan 31, 2016
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Let potential guests know what they're in for!
Location: Close to the University of Kansas
We were not told that the hotel was under construction. There was a view of an inside construction wall out of our window, it was horrible, like we were completely closed in a cave. The elevator did not work, sheets were horrible and beds were like trampolines! The manager gave us a $27 credit on our bill...that was disappointing!

Overnight stay

Posted Dec 7, 2015
Pros: Convient location.
Cons: They are under construction to update the rooms.
Location: It's Lawrence KS a college town. Lots to do.
When we checked into the hotel we were given a room with 2 double beds but had requested a king (this was blamed on Expedia, Expedia blamed it on the hotel so I am disappointed with both companies) I was told that there were no other rooms available with a King bed. Overall the hotel was not very clean however they were undergoing construction which was not disclosed by Expedia when I booked the hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our hotel. I do apologize that the room type you requested was not available. We are undergoing a remodel and we will be adding a few more king rooms as a result. I will be checking our Expedia site to ensure that the construction is being disclosed to future guests. I do hope you consider staying with us in the future. Thank you again for your comments. Heather S. Director of Sales

Pros: Location
Cons: Improve the heating and get taller toilets.
Location: University of Kansas.
We never could get the heating system to work properly. I was loud and blew cold air even when we pressed the heat button. We finally turned it off just to get peace and quiet.

Old hotel needs some TLC

Posted Oct 26, 2015
This Holiday Inn Express is an older location, and is showing its age. I remember when the hotel was first built in the late 1970's or early 1980's, as I was just finishing up graduate school. At the time, it was the most modern hotel in town. Unfortunately, that can't be said any longer. The grounds were not well kept, and the same can be said for the building. It felt and looked old. Not dirty. Just old and "tired". The staff were very friendly and helpful. I chose this location out of necessity rather than convenience. It is not close to downtown, not close to the University of Kansas campus, and really not very close to anything. Of course, Lawrence isn't all that big, so a 10 or 15 minute drive could get you anywhere in town. But this was homecoming weekend, I had business that had to be taken care of at the University, and this was what was available. It looked like some renovations were in progress, but it will take a lot of work to bring this hotel back to a 3-star or better rating, in my opinion.
