Lovely building. Staff on front desk not always very helpful and could be a bit sharp. Room was great however looking tired. Pool was closed for our stay, not ideal for 5* hotel.

Stayed on New Year's Eve. Couldnt get a drink in the lounge because they closed it for a party starting several hours later. Had to walk down the street to a bar for a drink. When we returned at 11:30pm party was still going and still couldnt get a drink without paying big fee for party that was just about over. Went to the room to discover they had suspended room service due to the same party. Decided to watch the ball drop on tv but tv signal died at 5 to 12. Dont stay on new years eve unless you sign up for the party, all other guests dont het any service.

Pros: * The room was very clean, quiet, and luxurious. * The staff was attentive and tried to fix the issues we raised, to the extent they could (see below). * We liked the live music playing in the lobby every night. Cons: * We were promised one free tour for two people as an Expedia VIP perk. The tour was clearly mentioned on expedia.com when we were booking, and in our written itineraries. When we inquired with the concierge about the tour, he told us that no, it actually wasn't included. This is bait and switch. All we got as VIP guests was a fruit plate. * The wi-fi didn't consistently work in our room. The connection was intermittent, and even when we were connected, we couldn't reliably transfer data. We weren't doing anything fancy like streaming, just trying to check email. I expect better from such an expensive hotel in 2023. * The TV also didn't work. It glitched every few seconds, making viewing not enjoyable. * Our room keys stopped working midway through our stay, forcing us to scramble and ask the staff for new ones when we were in a hurry. * Breakfast service at the Bosk restaurant was very slow.

Having stayed for many years at Shangri-la properties in Asia and domestically, I have always found them to be excellent in just about every way. Expensive, yes, but generally speaking, reasonable value for what you are getting.... that is, a quality experience that is a cut above alternatives in the area.
