Old hotel with many antiques

Posted May 1, 2017
Bed and mattress were lumpy. Hot water was irregular. Fairly high room rate for adequate accommodations. Free breakfast with high quality dinner available.

Pros: good location and nice decoration

Nice little B&B

Posted Dec 13, 2016
The innkeeper was very nice. The breakfast was good. We did hear the train but it wasn't too bad. I think it only came through once in the middle of the night. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. I would recommend this hotel. There didn't seem to be a lot of dinner choices on a Sunday night

Pros: Charm, décor, location
Cons: Trains are amusing at first but annoying in the middle of the night !! Just be aware !!
A great piece of history !! Quirky B&B, decorated for the era ! Lots of charm ! Comfortable & clean !!

Walsenburg? No, Awesomeburg!

Posted Nov 7, 2016 on Hotels
Ms. Wilson, the innkeep, was amazing, just the perfect guide to help us through the Colorado high country. The staff were all lovely people, the food at the restaurants is just perfect, and inexpensive as compared to big cities. The local lake was spectacular, so well kept, restrooms all around, places to park and be out of the sun. A real cowboy ate at the bar one night, he told us he likes the bar there, no rowdy people. Just magical all around.

Good, but trains run nearby

Posted Nov 2, 2016 on Hotels
The hotel has a free breakfast of scrambled eggs, etc. which was better than most (i.e. "continental" breakfasts). The restaurant was also quite good and on site. The downside is proximity to the railroad tracks. Loud train whistles blow nearby at every crossing at all times of day and night.
